kiss out of necessity

Stan sighed as he opened the door, the exhaustion from the day washing over his body. He placed his keys down on the table, and heard the faint sounds of the television in the next room. He took off his shoes and jacket, shrugging off his messenger bag and leaving them next to the door for tomorrow.

He walked to the bedroom, nudging the door open. Richie and Patty were cuddling on the bed, watching one of their drama shows that they would excitedly tell Stan about over dinner. Richie turned his head, a smile breaking out on his face.

“Staniel!” Patty perked up at that and scrambled off the bed and out of Richie’s arms to gently place a kiss on his cheek.

“How was work?” She asked as she pulled him toward the bed, situating him in between Richie and herself. He groaned in response to her question.

“That bad, huh?” Richie readjusted himself, slinging his arm around Stan’s shoulders. “Well, how about you pick what we watch, then? Me and Patty can finish up this episode some other time, right, Patsy?”

“We can watch this.” He didn’t mind when they talked to him about it. In fact, he enjoyed it and always looked forward to it. “You guys will just have to catch me up.”

Patty looked up at him, a wide smile on her face. “You sure?”

“Of course.”

“Strap in because this episode is juicy.” Richie rubbed his hands together before delving into what Stan has missed, occasionally trying to mimic the voices of the characters. Patty would pipe up every once in a while, reminding Richie of details that he forgot.

Stan mostly paid attention. It’s not that he didn’t want to, he just always got distracted. He got distracted by the way Richie’s eyes lit up and the way Patty snorted at Richie’s impressions and the way they seemed so happy and carefree. He didn’t mean to space out, but he always ended up watching their lips move or their hand movements.

And he definitely didn’t mean to grab the back of Richie’s neck and smash their lips together. Stan blindly moved his hand behind him, trying to find Patty’s hand, grasping onto it. He pulled back from Richie and turned around to kiss Patty the same way.

“If you wanted me to shut up,” Richie said, still slightly dazed. “You coulda just said so.” Stan laughed against Patty’s mouth before he broke the kiss.

“Sorry, it’s not that.” He grabbed both of their hands, holding them on his lap. “I just… I just really love you guys.”

“Aw, we love you, too, Stan.” Patty scooted closer to him, kissing his cheek before leaning her head on his shoulder.

“Yeah,” Richie said, agreeing with her. “Now let’s watch this shit storm.” Stan laughed softly, and he felt more content than he ever had before.

volume, bookish, autobiography

volume: last book you dnf? sdfkjlsjlfk technically it’s probably some ebook that i mean to finish but haven’t quite gotten around to (i think the wicked king probably?? i’ve been halfway through it for months), but in terms of a book i like. actually just gave up on. maybe all the crooked saints?? usually i suck it up and finish something even if i hate it (except for books for class), and then there are books i’ve stopped just bc i’m not focusing, not bc i actively don’t want to (adhd brain hhhhh), so that’s the only one i can think of for like. stopped bc i wasn’t vibing lmao

bookish: what is your reading goal for this year? probably like 40? i hit 30 before halfway through last year so i extended to 52 and then only read like four books the entire second half of the year hfdsjkk so i’m trying to be more realistic about my focus levels this year (i think i only put 26 down on goodreads tho)

autobiography: who is the protagonist you most relate to? hmmmmm v tough... richie is honestly extremely high up there. like the balance of his specific traits and strengths and especially his insecurities and flaws.... yeah. primary difference is he has a lot more ambition than i do; i have a hard time with like. identifying or acknowledging goals
