In "Stańczyk" by Jan Matejko
The Sam standee is in Stańczyk (1862) by Jan Matejko!
Romanticism (2024), Hana Vu, photography by Christopher Ripley and Maegan Houang
Judith Slaying Holofernes (1620), Artemisia Gentileschi | Boy with a Basket of Fruit (1593), Caravaggio | Stańczyk (1862), Jan Matejko | Mary Magdalene as Melancholy (1622-1625), Artemisia Gentileschi
Added another contender for a "depressing times sitting in a chair" reference to draw Eddie in ♥️ Its fun. And heartbreaking. Heartbreakingly fun!
...
At this point, just don't sit in chairs, it's not worth it.
Pan Śmiechski
Inspired by Bumblephee_art's vid, I decided to do my own take on Smiski Stanczyk
Jan Matejko (1838-1893), “Stańczyk” (1862), oil on canvas, 120 x 88 cm. Stańczyk was jester in the Polish court during the reign of King Sigismund I the Old, 1506 to 1548.
Wait a sec
Is that a fucking Stańczyk reference
Small analysis of the thumbnail of TADC's 8th episode.
As a proud pole - but not the kind you walk into while walking distracted - and somewhat of a history nerd I noticed a very interesting reference in the thumbnail of the 8th episode of The Amazing Digital Circus.
Other than the two characters of Kinger and Pomni, who play key roles in the episode, we also see Caine seated in front with a worried, blank expression (or at least the closest he can get to it with his dental appearance.) But why am I pointing that out?
Well, it is a clear reference to Jan Matejko's famous painting titled "Stańczyk" depicting a worried court jester sitting alone while oblivious festivities take place.
The full title of the painting when translated to English to Polish is: Stańczyk during Queen Bona's ball, despite having lost Smoleńsk.
Smoleńsk was an important fortress situated in the Great Lithuanian Duchy, which was under a union with the Polish Kingdom. After many long battles it was lost to Russia.
In the painting, the jester knows of the lost battle and it rightfully worried for what the future holds, meanwhile the rest of the nobility parties without a care.
Now, I'm not sure how much this overlaps with the lore of TADC, but I wanted to write about this nifty little detail I noticed. Please tell me if I skipped over or messed up something. I like writing such long posts, but I'm still a beginner and English isn't my first language.
