STAPLE! 2018 update
Update: I will not be at Staple on Saturday; will be attending a family wake. @missjamiekaye will be taking care of selling my books, and I’ll sign some in advance tonight and tomorrow.
I will be at Staple all day Sunday.
Thanks for your patience!
Hey guys, it’s been months since I posted here, but I’m taking a short break from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey to exhibit at STAPLE! I’ll be right near the entrance! Can’t miss me!
Hey there! I’m going to be at Staple! Independent Media Expo on September 9th-10th in Austin, TX. I’ll be selling physical copies of Redemption there along with some prints and zines~ You can find more information on their website: https://staple-austin.org/
Staple 2016, by Edward Ayoub
It’s been a couple weeks since Staple 2016 and I can say that it still leaves a lingering impression to me. To preface, at one point, I once ran a gallery in Austin and I would sort of run the show. It was interesting to see things not as a gallery-owner or a person in charge, but as a spectator, a guest. Since coming to this city, I couldn’t help but notice that any stranger you may run into here will likely have some passion project being worked on. Those passion projects can range from painting, creating music, filming, or even to unique entrepreneurial ideas; it’s something that I love about Austin. A ton of creative, proud, and motivated people in a condensed ‘weird’ little city. Staple congregates a bunch of that kind of local talent under one roof for an awesome convention. However, it differs greatly from the typical anime or comic convention. A typically focus for a convention may be the special guests, panels, events, but in Staple it is all about the local talent, well mostly local. While most artists were indeed from Austin, there were still quite a few hailing from all sorts of places across the nation to be part of this show. It’s funny to think that some artists literally live about five minutes from the convention, while others traveled hours by plane to be there. Still, this in no way is to undermine the value of this convention, quite the contrary. Because this convention focuses on artists, it lends great opportunity for original creativity to be in the forefront. What you’ll end up finding is an amazing assortment of incredibly talented artists, each unique with their own stylized ‘signature’ or ‘brand’ of art. It can be mind boggling to think of how these artists can balance out the time between the needs of their daily lives and still make the time to create something they enjoy and wish to share. As a guest, it was admittedly a humbling experience having the opportunity to meet some of these artists. All of those I met involved with Staple were kind, in fact I was given a ride at a point with complete strangers activing as if we have been friends all along. I have to hand it to Uncle Staple, who also gave me the opportunity to view the two artist halls from above, he has done a tremendous job of hosting this local art and comic convention. I greatly look forward to the next Staple convention and keeping up with the wonderful people I’ve met through it.
No comic this week!
Don’t forget to go see Boper9 Conklin at Staple! Austin 2016!
She will be at the Artist’s Alley Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6 at the Marchesa Hall and Theater, 6226 Middle Fiskville Rd, Austin, Texas
Boper9 will be sharing a table with Zoe Coughlin, Creator of The Last Cowboy
Drop by and see them!
Cut into a grapefruit this morning and found an orange. We didn’t want to eat the orange because we didn’t remember having an orange so instead I took this breakfast cereal style photo of PLANT LIFE: the new comic I wrote drawn by Jacob Tomlinson for sale in the yofishboy store. I will also have them on Wednesday at our show in Denton and in Austin at Staple in March! I cut this lime because I wanted to put some lime in my water for the day.
