Saturday March 7th, a group of musicians are going to camp out around a coffee shop audience and trade off songs in a chill acoustic atmosphere. I am going to be one of those musicians and will play a some of my more downtempo bittersweet songs that shine in this sort of quiet environment. You should come if you are close! It's free! -Eric
Here is the video for the new song celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Denton, TX's most beloved viral yard sale: The PriceMaster.
hello all! I wrote and recorded a song about an internet famous yard sale that happened down the street from me in 2001 to celebrate its 25th anniversary next month. I hope it inspires you to find the strangeness (or be the strangeness) in your own neighborhood and not sell yourself short when someone asks to buy the priceless from you. This track is a warm up for new neighbor/courage themed album out later this year to be officially announced soon. This song will be performed on Feb 10th in Denton, TX at the official 25th Anniversary of the PriceMaster yard sale. See below for details. Please stay in contact whatever way is best for you (I prefer mailing list) talk to you soon! Make me an Offer. -Eric
25th Anniversary PriceMaster meet up and parade.
I woke up this past Tuesday morning, creatively inspired by two different conversations. Two days before, David from Thug Emporium, someone who I had never spoken to, came over to my place, we talked for a few hours about art and what it means to be a local artist in Denton and what future projects we could make together. I traded him a Waitsgiving shirt for a Thug Emporium Tee and a sticker with the Price Master on it.
The Price Master is the most famous viral video from my city of Denton Texas. In this 30 minute 2001 VHS oddity, a group of friends on Normal Street set up an abnormal yard sale, ask the attendees to get their prices from a man dressed in a combination-martial arts jumper, silver jacket, balaclava and drama mask, who speaks into a reverb heavy microphone while swaying to backwards flute music. The Price master quotes extremely high prices to everyone trying to buy an item and they walk away baffled. It’s a 10 out of 10 must see video.
The next day I went into the Echolab to mix down my new album Bravest Neighbor and the topic of the Price Master came up when I mentioned that our friend, Echolab founder and mastering engineer Matthew Barnhart (who I planned on mailing the album to the next day) appears at 2 min 15 seconds in the Price Master video. The assistant engineer Nathan hadn’t seen the video and I was told by Matt (Pence) to immediately pull it up on my phone. What jumped out to me this time was the date on the front of the video: Feb 10th 2001. Almost 25 years ago next month. “Wow we should meet up on the anniversary!” I laughed it off but that next morning woke with a realization: Daring someone to buy something from you that you refuse to sell is maybe the most DIY-punk-rock-Denton-Texas sentiment I can think of. This should be an event AND a song.
I wrote the song in three and a half days and sent it to Matthew to mix and master with the new album. I messaged David to help organize and we decided we should meet up at Bewitched, Crystals Jewelry and Cosmic Gifts which is right down the road. I messaged Bewitched in a DM and discovered that the co-owner Fara was ALSO at the original Price Master event in 2001. She was in (as long as we park in the back)
So here we have it. My favorite combination of things: ridiculous, community driven, slightly inspiring and free.
I hope you will join us at 5pm on Feb 10th for an hour or so. We will have someone dressed as the price master declaring prices on whatever you bring, fan art or random item. Or feel free to bring something priceless, grab the mic and tell us how much you’ll take for it. Then we’ll walk to Normal and part ways.
The song (my first in 4 years) is being mixed and mastered, stay tune and pre-save to get it first.

I'm back from Montreal where I spent a week recording a new Fishboy album with Kid Koala!
Eric San (another Eric with an animal+young person nick name) is a true artist with a career too big to list but I'll try and hit the highlights: super DJ production/ turntable stuff, beautiful ambient works, fantastic story driven musical puppet stage shows, movie and game soundtracks, countless paintings, and his animated directorial debuts is out this year as well.
Needless to say I was beyond excited that he invited me to his workshop to help finish my next record. Thanks Eric for letting me hang out in your world for a bit, ask you a million questions about random instruments and records and make something fun. (I also popped on his weekly live stream last night and had a blast trying to play an ambient version of propername spelling bee on a soccer ball guitar)

January's TMNT screening was excellent. I especially enjoyed this cameo from the four turtles.
