Notes: Reader has healing powers that unfortunately take her own "life energy" away, but no one knows. Also, reader is hinted to be Chase's sister.
Author's Note: Got carried away but committed to it anyway. Idk if I like it or not.
"F*ck, f*ck, where are my keys?"
She grabs them, making him grab a jacket before running out and slamming the door behind them. Too frantic to hear Beef's worried whine, they race down the steps.
She ignored Robert's tears, her own heart aching in worry. They curse a bit as she missed a step, continuing to run on her sore ankle, struggling to put on her jacket as she did.
"Where- baby, where was-?"
"I know where it is! Just worry about driving,"
They get into his car, and they sped off, she gave him directions, them being there in less than 5 minutes. She jumps out of the car as it was still moving, rushing over.
"Move!"
She shoves Invisigal out of the way, turning Chase onto his back. Her shaking hands check for a pulse, cursing. Invisigal tried to apologize, a hand on her back, getting punched in the face.
"Stay away!"
The other woman didn't take it personally, cupping her bleeding nose with a hiss. Robert rushed over, momentarily checking on Invisi before crouching next to Chase.
She curses, sobbing. She tugs off her jacket with a frustrated shout, rubbing her eyes. She quickly unbuttons Chase's shirt, placing a glowing hand over his still heart.
"Please, please, please. Please be okay, bubby. Don't do this to me,"
She rests her forehead on the older man's, tears running down her face. A soft but whispy glow escapes her mouth, creeping its way into Chase's own mouth, ears, and nose.
She pleads as she did so, her tears burning up, becoming nothing but steam. She felt her heart shrink, her lungs scream, her ears ring, her skin began to dry, nose bleeding because of it.
Robert, noticing this, gets concerned.
"Hey, babe, you're overdoing it. Hey, that's enough, he's-"
She doesn't listen, her words dying out as breathing becomes harder. Her hand stops glowing as his heart starts to beat. As if she noticed. Her head started spinning before-
"Sweetheart?!"
----
Robert stands in front of her hospital room, pacing. Chase, in a hospital gown and wheelchair, watches the unconscious woman. Invisi was there, too, waiting for everyone else.
"D*mn girl... so stupid-"
"Hey, we don't need that right now, okay? She's gonna be fine. She- she's healed people before, it's just a bump in the road-"
"And if it's not? She's never healed anyone from the dead-"
"I know! Okay!?"
He punched at the wall, glaring down at Chase, eyes red and puffy from his earlier crying. Invisi flinches, Chase stares him in the eye. His breathing shook as he swallows more cries.
"It- it has to be a bump in the road. I don't have anything else if it isn't, okay? I was prepared. I was ready to die as Mecha Man, but, now..."
He laughs bitterly, tears falling down his face. He slumps against the wall, slowly sliding down until he hit the ground. He sobs, despite trying not to, cursing loudly.
"... I can't. I... if it's going to be like this for her, such h*ll, then... it's not worth it... I'm done-"
"Don't talk stupid, now. Our girl's stubborn, but she wouldn't want you to pause your life over something like this."
"... she's always sacrificing. You can never make her hate you enough to make her stop helping."
"She wouldn't have to if you would have just listened, Vis!"
----
She woke up to a dark room, body burning. She chokes around the tube in her mouth, unable to move much or open her eyes. She whimpers, mind fuzzy.
There's shouting outside, an annoying beeping that bashed inside her head. Her fingers twitch as she tried to do something. Anything. There's a soft shush, a larger hand on her smaller arm.
Another pair of hands rested on her stomach and chest. The soft and careful motions were accompanied with soothing and familiar shushes.
Royd and Blazer.
"Hey, hey, little beam. You're in the hospital. You gave us quite the scare."
"More like a big one. I... I wasn't afraid that I had to... you know. Break the news to them, and-"
She jumps at a crash, her throat tightening around the tube in panic. Royd places another hand on her forehead, trying to keep her from moving so much.
"Take a deep breath. You're okay. Robert and Chase are outside, everyone's okay... uh, physically."
Her shoulders relax slightly but not fully, the tube still uncomfortable. She hears the chair beside her scrape against the floor, Royd's hands leaving her body.
Blazer leaves as well, but not before a soft kiss was placed on her forehead. She hears a quiet sniffle before a cleared throat came after it. She knew Blazer was crying.
"We'll go get the nurse."
"And doctor."
---
Royd gently closes the door behind him, watching as everyone argued, shaking his head. It was mostly Robert and Chase against Invisigal.
Everyone else seemed to just jump in for fun. Blazer gathers her emotions, walking ahead of Royd so no one would have to see her puffy eyes or shaking hands.
"Yo."
"What, Royd!?"
"She's awake."
Robert falters at that, letting out a breath. He stares at the bigger man, before pushing past everyone and stumbling inside the room. He sits next to her (more like collapsing) immediately.
"... baby? Sweetheart?"
He takes her hand, his dry eyes burning, basically crying with no more tears. Her fingers twitch in his hold, her heavy eyes opening, brows furrowing in effort.
He sobs out a laugh, leaning forward to cup her jaw carefully and smother her face in kisses, not caring who saw. When he was done, he grips her hand again, tighter.
"You- you stupid and stubborn woman. You- I can't believe you! I don't know whether to be impressed that you hid this or pissed that you almost died."
"Probably both."
Chase speaks up as he slowly walks in, sitting on his younger sister's bed, his own eyes glossy. Robert nods in agreeance, turning back to his girlfriend. He kisses her knuckles.
"Yeah... yeah, probably both. It should be both. But right now I just want to make sure you're okay. Okay? We're gonna get you fixed up, I'm gonna take you home so you can rest, and we'll go from there. But you, Missy, owe me a couple of Twinkie packs, at least."
He rants, his mind just a bundle of nerves and relief. Chase watched the two, one of his hands gently resting on his sister's stomach, patting gently. A fond and familiar gesture.
*He keeps the red gem from Blazer (idk how that would work tbh)
*He stops using the gem and finds another way to survive (like what?)
*They find a way to rejuvenate him (unlikely, but interesting)
*Something else entirely
