Is there even one arcade game you can fully enjoy, without criticizing it to death?
I'm going to take this question in a positive light and not as aggressively as it sounds when I read it. I'm pretty critical of games, even great games from the past. I try to be balanced.in how I write them up. I give my opinion. Often that opinion is positive, sometimes it's negative. But even when dealing with a good game, I'm going to point out things about it that I don't like or that I feel could have been better. Also, I often try to post good things about games, such as nice art from games that didn't otherwise impress me. Who am I to judge these things? Nobody. I'm not a journalist or a gaming professional or someone who sits on panels at conventions like PAX. I'm just a guy who's played a lot of games over a lot of years.
I have one goal for this Tumblr feed: to share my love of gaming with anyone that will listen. If someone reads one of my posts and is reminded of a game they used to love, that's great. If another person is inspired by pixel art or perhaps changes their view on classic gaming, that's even better. Some people might even go out of their way to try some twenty-year-old game based on my post. But if they do so, I want them to know what to expect going in. There are those who aren't interested in what I have to say at all and, for them, I try to keep good screenshots and pretty pictures on hand. Because there's nothing wrong in my book with just liking to look at beautiful bitmaps and sprite work--I wouldn't put together things like gameplay wallpapers otherwise.
To give a more direct answer, just in the past couple weeks I've given massive praise to Mahou Daisakusen, Light Bringer, In the Hunt, and Rayforce. I even consider Mortal Kombat II to be a really good fighting game, I just wish the developers hadn't put in some of the silliness that they did, as I feel it dilutes the "Mortal" feel of the game.
