my computer just had a critical hardware failure and crashed.  there is no backup of my paper; OneDrive only syncs like once a month cause it’s a piece of shit

better yet, I was emailing my teacher to explain what happened and I found last week’s email reply to when I told her I had come down with the flu on the due date/the only day I had to work on my paper after vacation, and guess what

I misread it

she had said YES, email me a copy on the due date, THEN bring in a physical copy today; I thought she had said NO email copy

I also found the email from the automatic grade system saying I got a 0 on the paper.

I just emailed her and explained the whole situation, accepted my 0 without complaint, and asked if I could reproduce the paper tomorrow and come to see her in office hours on Wednesday and get her notes, cause without them I’m fucked on the final research paper

((it doesn’t eat all that much, I’ve been told it’s about 5kg a month. So 10kg would last her two months. But we took 10 anyway, because it’s that of by the kilo, and the transportation fees don’t change with the weight and are pretty expensive, so we decided to take more for longer. This way we have to order less often with that ridiculous price (it’s about 17€ for transportation in a freezer truck, and to give you an idea, 10kg chicks are about 11€, so that encourages you to buy more at once).))

“Well, he wasn’t so much a conversational partner as someone trying to forcibly change my mind with what most people would call magic.” Elrohir returned the bow. “Greetings, Counsellor Algrim. I am Elrohir Peredhel, son of Lord Elrond. And I definitely needed the relief. Ada is a better diplomat than I am, and I am shorter-tempered than normal.”

Algrim gave a quiet hum of acknowledgement and inclined his head in greeting, an easy smile finding his face. “I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Elrohir.” When Elrohir admitted to lacking in the diplomacy department, the statement earned him a look from the dark-skinned advisor that was part puzzled and part amused. “Oh, but patience and perseverance are a diplomat’s stock in trade.” He studied Elrohir curiously. “If you are not a diplomat at heart, then where does your true calling lie? Are you, perhaps, a warrior? A craftsman? Mayhap even a poet?”

Where had he dropped out this time? 

The air smelled of wood and water, the sound of waterfalls greeting his ears even before the quiet rip in time and space healed itself behind him. As his eyes adjusted, Sora was able to make out the source of the scents, at least, if not the sounds. He had placed himself back into reality in the middle of the woods. Trees surrounded him, their leaves silvered by the slowly gathering dusk, giving him only bare glimpses of cliffs and mountains somewhere beyond.

It seemed he’d arrived at early evening, and in a place where magic was as steeped into the earth as rainwater. Sora could feel it tingling beneath his skin with every breath, with every shift of his suddenly bare feet, a sensation not of his own magic, but...quietly welcoming, nevertheless. The trees themselves felt as though they were welcoming the newcomer, and as he stood there, it was as if he felt the wood’s greeting, knowing beyond a doubt that he stood in the company of things ancient and gentle.

Without thinking, Sora swept a gentle bow to the trees, only then realizing that he was clothed in robes and pants made of grey and blue, threads of silver winking with each movement he made, as though he were clothed in the night sky, the styling reminding him of some of the books he’d read, filled with wizards and elves and all things magical.

Well, if he had come to such a place, so be it.  Sora tucked a loose strand of moon-white hair behind his ear, realizing after a moment that that too had changed, becoming more pointed, closer to the sharply-pointed ears of Dilan than his own more gentle curves. It fueled Sora’s suspicions that he had stepped into a place of old magic; after all, it was rare that he was turned into a Fae of any kind, though this time he seemed to be more of the Elven variety.

With that in mind, Sora started walking, feeling the rich earth beneath his bare feet and following the sound of the water, knowing he would come to its source eventually. He gathered peace as he walked, breathing in the living, quiet magic surrounding him, the gentle sounds of the wood settling for the evening soothing his weariness.

...and then he stepped from the woods and found the source of the sound...and the outpost in front of the ring of waterfalls.
