The closer you get to the light, the greater your shadow becomes.

The problem about having brainrot for your own fic is that I want to talk about it constantly but I donât want to spoil anything but I want to talk about motives and characters and just the events but I want to preserve mystery and suspense

Little Dark Things
aqueouswrathâ:
[continued from here]
Aqua flinched, just slightly, at the sound of bones cracking as the Dark Thing hit the groundâand partly for the way his weird, warped cry grated on the inner ear. But it wasnât out of pity. Sheâd long since had pity beaten out of her.
The moment the tendrils whipped out, she knew there would be too many of them to dodge from the ground. She backflpped into the air, magic coalescing around her, her focus so battle-honed that she no longer needed certain call-words. This was one of those times, as Wind magic carried her off of the ground as she righted rightside-up again, and hovered just out of the tendrilsâ reach.
Wind whipped up her lengthening, split-end blue hair as she hovered, and brought Master Keeper to bear, pointing it down at the Dark Thing. Her face was sealed into a grimace: hard, merciless, judging.
âLight!â
Spears of light descended from the sky, slamming into the earth around the Dark Thing, cracking it open as the magic buried itself into the dirt. A cage of Light spears formed around the creature, entrapping it in a space ten feet wide.
There. That should hold it. With its leg frozen, it couldnât jump over the twenty-foot-high bars, and if it was an Unversed or some derivative of Vanâs Dark powers, she didnât have to kill it this way. She could justâŠleave it here until Vanitas came to collect it. Surely he would realize this one was going off-missionâŠhe had awareness of those foul things, didnât he?
Honestly, she wasnât sure if she cared anymore. Aqua delicately lighted upon the earth, and turned to walk away.
Sora lashed out, stretching himself and his tendrils indiscriminately to try and reach for Aqua, the scent of her magic renewing itself with her Wind spells...and renewing his frenzy. Wind was battle, magic was fight or die, it was cold and merciless and the little Dark Thing he was knew it, knew it beyond all doubts, and knew that he needed to get rid of it if he were to prevent being caused more pain.
He stared up at Aqua, the barely-seen expression in the morphing, twisting shadows that formed him one of calculated, enraged intelligence.Too cold to be mindless, for all he was feral. He paused for a moment, dragging broken-healed-broken-healed-broken leg encased in ice up underneath him, looking at the ground and then at Aqua again, clearly calculating how high and how hard he had to jump to reach her.
Not that he ever got a chance.
Spears of Light did not faze him, for all they should have, considering what he was very obviously made of. It wasnât until they slammed into the ground, making it rumble underneath him, knocking him around and sideways, adding the sound of his own shattering bones to the cracking of the earth, that he even paid attention to them. Sora looked down at the ground, at the bars forming, and made a split-second decision. He gathered Darkness, gathered Thunder to him, and combined the two, shooting at the ground directly underneath him and leaping in the same instant, the explosion rocketing him upwards. His teeth were bared as he snapped his head up, aiming for the top of the burning pain terror Light cage he was in.
He screamed in pain as the bars finished forming, the amount of Light focused on the tiny area he was contained in burning him even as he reached for the bars, his quickly-formed spell having only gotten him halfway up the cage. He hissed, spitting blood, as he came in contact with the Light, clawed hands wrapping around the bars as his feet somehow managed to find purchase on the slick surface. It burnt him. It added the sickening smell of seared flesh to the air, but Sora did not let go.
He climbed. Yes, it hurt, it hurt like his constantly-breaking bones couldnât, the Light hammering at him with each movement, each touch brushing against his skin, but he still climbed. Heâd moved through worse.
But at the same time, it was enough of a jolt that something else came into his expression. Something beyond the enraged creature that showed its intelligence in movement only. He blinked, wetness coming to those unholy yellow orbs he was forced to call eyes, as pain worked its way through the shroud in his mind, jolting him enough to give the boy, the god inside the Darkness, a slight hold over his rampaging power again. It left him sliding down the Light bars until he touched the ground again, left him gripping them then, holding still despite the smoke -- not Darkness, that was definitely smoke -- wafting from his skin, as he sought out Aqua as she turned away.
Harsh, growled words, sounding more like a legion of the ghosts of tortured children than a single boy, ripped themselves from Soraâs throat, hissed through bared fangs.
âA...Aqu..a... why...?â

"What"? Really guys? You do realize that I'm nowhere near pretty enough to be a Maia, right? I'm only the other half, not that pretty. *amused*
âOne, not all Maia are pretty. Two, Iâd say you are regardless.â

Elladan wasnât sure what to do with the first statement. The second, though, he could understand. âAh. Well, in that case, youâre a Vala, not a Maia.â
Elrohir grinned. âNot that weâre going to be any more reverent to you just because of that.â It had once been said that they would steal ManwĂ«âs pants if given the chance, and it wasnât quite wrong.
Sora laughed, shaking his head. âIf I am a Vala, I am the shortest one to ever grace the worlds, guys. And still not pretty enough. I will admit that Kingdom Hearts is, thoughâŠat their core. There isnât much to look at in their coldness.â
He smirked just slightly at the twins, looking up at Elrohir and crossing his arms after a moment. âThe day either of you are reverent to me I am going to down you and check for life-threatening illnesses.â As deadpan as that statement was, Sora was serious.
âNot so sure anyone would call Tulkas pretty.â Elladan shrugged. âAnd height isnât really something they worry about. They could be mice if they wanted to be.â
âReally bright mice.â Elrohir grinned. âAnd thatâs probably wise. Or check for doubles. Thatâs more likely.â
âHis wife seems to.â Not being a brat, just pointing that out, mm-hm. âOh, I donât worry about height. I am small and I am destined to remain that way.â Sora chuckled softly, shaking his head. ââŠat least if they were mice, they would not search for the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything by giving it to Man to figure out.â âElrohirâŠmost donât even know I have magic, much less what you see in me. Youâre the one who had to tell Legolas â though I still think you did that just to freak him out.â He squinted at the twins, fighting back a grin. âYouâre not going to convince me otherwise. And I doubt seriously any doubles of yours would know unless they have your Gifts as well. So Iâd be checking to see what poisoned you.â
âShe might go with handsome.â Elladan shrugged, then blinked. ââŠIâm sorry, what?â They wouldnât say there was even a question of Life, the Universe and Everything, so having an answer made absolutely no sense.
âMaaaybe. I will not confirm your suspicions.â Elrohir grinned properly, then shrugged. âWeâve been poisoned before, and it didnât make us more reverent. So itâs really more likely that weâve been doubled somehow.â
âHandsome is beauty, as far as Iâm concerned. They have the same end result.â Sora was still smiling. He knew his own ideas of beauty tended to the weird, and he honestly didnât mind. â..pfft. Iâm sorry, I forgot. There is a book...â He shook his head slightly. âEventually I will bring it and let you read it sometime.â Not right now, of course. But eventually. Somewhere down through timee. âI have to remember where I left it first.â
âYou do realize that by saying youâre not going to confirm my suspicions...you confirmed my suspicions, right?â Thank goodness Legolas wasnât anywhere near at the moment; Sora had another suspicion that Elladan and Elrohir would have been met with more than a little displeasure from the younger Elf had he heard. âJust so you know. I will be tackling either of you who starts that. Whether youâve been doubled or not doesnât matter, I would find out. And really, you donât want me tackling you.â He smiled a little, reaching up to touch Elrohir on the arm. âEither way though, letâs not, hm? I donât deserve any sort of reverence, regardless of what I am, and it just gets in the way of friendships. Iâd rather do without it.â He paused for a moment. âBesides, either one of you could beat me in a fight if you put your minds to it and I donât want to be on the receiving end of your prank wars.â

Most are, in their own way. Iâm not. I just look like a sick panda. *still quietly amused* And if my other half had a voice, I donât think they would be too pleased about being called a Maia. *chuckle*
âBeauty is in the eye of the beholder. And what other half is that?â
âBeholders donât even live here, so thatâs a moot point.â He couldnât help his amusement. That was a joke that was begging to be made, and Sora didnât have the willpower to not make it. Whether that was unfortunate or not was up to how loud the groaning was afterward.Â
He blinked, raising a brow just slightly. âMy literal other half. The Creator and Maintainer of all Hearts, as I am the Creator and Maintainer of all Balance within those Hearts. The cutting Shield to my protecting Sword.â He was still amused and enjoying being just a little obtuse for once; the smile quirking around his lips said so. âI know youâve heard me reference them by now. Kingdom Hearts.â
