☕️ the Great Lakes?
Extremely excellent eldritch neighbors!! I may miss the Rockies, but I won’t deny that they are a great replacement, as far as natural features that strike at least a little bit of fear and awe into your heart go. Deep in my heart I am pretty sure I need to live close-ish to at least one landform that feels like it could eat me to be happy and Superior more than fits the bill.
I think the fact that lakes are so conceptually weird to me (I’ve just never lived around any!) has made them feel a little extra eldritch, but it’s been great learning about all the geology and biology that goes hand in hand with the dominant features of the region being something I have so little familiarity with. Glacial geology is one of the topics I’ve found myself researching some on my own time, just because I want to know more. And, you know, the spooky stories and shipwrecks and scary, vaguely anthropomorphic nature of the lakes when they get testy affords them a lot of personality.
In conclusion, have a favorite cosplay photo of mine, from when we were doing a Pride parade up in the Duluth-Superior area:
Could I request some cool facts about the house centipede? I have a very large one chilling on my bedroom wall right now and am making an effort to learn to love them...
I will direct you to this post!
☕️ Okapis!
The most intense adoration imaginable. Getting sloppily licked by okapis has been the high point of my life. I’m a fan of all the giraffe superfamily, past and present, honestly. Giraffes and Okapi are the silliest, weirdest animals with such huge personalities, and Pronghorns are, in addition to being my favorite animal, an amazing example of how weird and wild evolution can be!
I also just generally really miss the zoo and all my animals I hung out with on a regular basis, and I’d give anything to get sneezed on by a giraffe right now.
send me a ☕️ and a topic and i’ll talk about how i feel about it
Hey Mel! Can I ask what kind of mushroom kit you’re using for those pink oysters? They look wonderful! I’ve been so hesitant to try a grow kit — has yours been fairly easy to maintain?
Hi! Queen Zuggtmoy is a pink oyster mushroom kit from North Spore. Our former mushroom colony, Princess Toadstool, was from a different company, but both have been easy to establish and maintain.
We originally kept Princess Toadstool under a bell jar to maintain her humidity and keep her spores contained (especially for the health and comfort of our parrots), but Queen Zuggtmoy is just too large to fit under there anymore, and she seems more vibrant when she has access to more oxygen. She’s currently in a ten gallon terrarium surrounded by pillow moss, with a sheet of saran wrap covering the top (and open a little bit on one side for added ventilation).
Since it’s still pretty cold out, I think Queen Zuggtmoy isn’t as prolific as she will be in the summer. We have her next to the snake tanks in the hope that she’ll pick up some warmth from their heating elements, but it’s probably only about 70 degrees in her terrarium.
As oyster mushrooms are edible, I’m looking forward to harvesting the bounty of the queen for like, a rice pilaf or something, but my partner Tevis is her official caretaker and he seems to prefer to observe her for the time being.
SJ you should know that I showed the latest page of Pyramid to a bunch of people I’m in a groupchat with and they are ALL immediately in love with Bug Ambassador....good work.....
OH GOOD I AM SO GLAD. (':Bug Ambassador is lovable...huggable...

three sunflowers gets three answers, so here goes:
1) i got up early on my friday so i could hustle downtown and get full pick of the pastries at my favorite local bakery. i went slightly ham (hadn’t eaten yet lol) so i got a cinnamon snail, an almond croissant, a slab of berry coffee cake, and a orange-rasperry streusel muffin, which will be my breakfast for at least three days
2) when i’m really stressed about classes or worried about how i did on an exam, i listen to the he-man song. it gets those endorphins up!!
3) we’ve gone back into the rainy season here in the PNW and i am enjoying it greatly

@storiesabouthestars I thought Rust and Marty could have easily hated one another until I realized that their problem was they couldn’t reconcile how much they cared for one another. Buddy-Cop pairings are the only sort of pairing in mainstream media where you have two heterosexual men (at least presenting as such) be willing to die for one another and have other guys watch it and not think “no homo”.
oh shit that must be it right there, the willing to die for one another part. all in the name of PARTNERSHIP. they do form some kind of quasi-intimate bond in these shows/movies, don’t they? even though it’s presented as “macho” 90% of the time we as fans can extrapolate the rest out into.....Other Things. where’s my canonically queer buddy cops in mainstream, I ask the freaking Lord.

The hope of healing and redemption!!!! We project our bullshit onto handsome white dudes to process it in-depth with a useful psychological buffer pre-installed!
you know I’m a sucker for healing and redemption (but it almost always comes afterwards, never in canon events--sigh. we were lucky with TD to get their final scene in the parking lot with the tears and Nicer Ribbons and whatnot). “project our bullshit”.......ain’t that the truth lol. I wish I had some non-white dude characters more commonly represented in this popular media stuff so we could like........not have to project so hard. or maybe the projecting onto a character outside our own personal experience/likeness makes it easier to work through? that’s some interesting food for thought right there. like if i put my female experience onto a male person (for example) who doesn’t look like me or live a life like mine, is it easier for me to process more rationally instead of emotionally? HUH. it’s too late for this shit.
