idk this just reminds me of the emotional aspect of their relationship that we don’t see much on screen but it’s very clear to me that the #1 thing hetty is afraid of is being hurt. this often leads to issues where she doesn’t think of trevor because of her self preservation, i imagine she would eventually learn to unlearn this and feel safe and secure in their relationship and this song is just one of my favorites ever so i must relate it to them.

hetty has a certain amount of shame in letting her allow herself to be in a relationship. and i think trevor wouldn’t understand this at first. idk i think they would have to work through this because of hettys repressed-ness and trevor’s seeming openness (but he’s actually not all that secure himself!)

they can’t be unattractive

men can make a life out of their personality while being extremely unattractive

women always need to be somewhat attractive in some way

it’s drilled into our heads from birth

almost no teenage boy wears makeup for his acne

but almost every teenage girl does

plenty of a list actors dont fit a single beauty standard

almost no actresses do the same

being ugly is seen as an insult to most men

you never see a man with a way less attractive woman

but half the couples i know are made of unattractive men and extremely attractive women just going by modern beauty standards

being attractive makes things much easier for men too, but they don’t need to be physically attractive

if you’re a girl you can’t be too attractive or men won’t take you seriously, but you can’t be too ugly or men will literally treat you worse than the dirt they walk on

i’ve been an objectively ugly girl my entire life

people will excuse anything you do if you’re pretty enough

the world is not kind to ugly women where it is kind to ugly men

this is absolutely not exclusive to cis women too

many people claim to be trans allys but the SECOND a trans girl doesn’t look exactly how they want her too they to think that completely negates her identity as a woman
