Now that I've had some time to recover from the long day and night yesterday, I just want to share how much mana there was yesterday. It was so enriching for me not just as a person or resident of Hawaiʻi, but as a Hawaiian woman. To share in the pride with my fellow kānaka; it was truly such a powerful experience. I may not be able to sail or voyage, but I will definitely mālama honua. I will teach my son the importance of his Hawaiian culture and heritage for how truly unique it is. I may not have ʻike kūhohonu when it comes to Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia's huakaʻi, but the ideals that they embrace and teach are so crucial for our everyday lives. Mahalo to Billy V for allowing me to work and kōkua yesterday. I will never forget the feeling in my naʻau as Hōkūleʻa came in. I will never forget how thousands of people rejoiced in her homecoming. I will never forget watching as the many waʻa surrounded Hōkūleʻa to welcome her home. I will be able to say that I was there and that I watched her beautiful sails fill with the makani of her ʻāina hānau. #Hikianalia #Hōkūlea #StarOfGladness #MālamaHonua #WelcomeHomeHōkūlea #ProudToBeHawaiian
