STARPOINTS - Tales of the Fallen Stars

STARPOINTS is a sci-fi fantasy, teen drama soap opera, space opera, 2D animatic series. The show is set in the distant far away galaxy, and follows an ensemble of five students as they try to balance attending school with family life... and a predetermined fate set in stone by the cosmos.

The show is currently in development; this blog was created with the intention of tracking my progress on STARPOINTS from scratch (kind of; I started this in June but haven't done a lot with it until now). Because of that, everything is subject to change.

A weird attempt at blending a variety of genres that have always interested me; it's like a mix of Harry Potter and Star Wars but not.

Themes: freedom of choice; coming-of-age; friendship; family (found and pre-established); self-forgiveness; mutual understanding

Genre: sci-fi fantasy, teen drama, soap opera, space opera

Progress: currently on worldbuilding and character development + designs

Audience: General (mostly adolescent and young adult, though)

Aesthetic/Vibe: space-themed setting; intergalactic interactions; comedic; genuine

POV: Third person (multiple)

Featuring: Fantasy/sci-fi/space-based creatures!! Several references to astronomy and its history!! Somewhat twisted fantasy school!!

Content warning: fantasy violence; mentions of war-based conflict (or something of that variety)

ENSEMBLE

Kazz Trailblazer; a human exchange student from the "Milky Way," looking to explore and adapt to the discovered galaxy

Azerty; a previously homeschooled robot constructed for who knows what by who knows who, and is very warm and friendly

Tauri Sterope II; an Asterade with rulership in his near future, and is a huge overachiever and rule enforcer

Sufi Azophi; a Neburi artist who prefers to spend time in solitude, and is kind of (really) going through magical puberty so bare with her

Aether Lite; the strong, fast, "light"hearted, fun-loving Fenykuma whose dying to have some stability and be sane for a little bit

NEW DUDES!! They're pretty nice!! :D

Their names are Kazz (first two images) and Tauri (last two images), from my newest story STARPOINTS. They're a part of an ensemble of 5 teenagers attending an academy in space (that's the basics of it anyway, still building the story from scratch)

I talked a bit about it minutes ago here, though I don't know how reliable of a source it is, it was just a coincidence lol

Happy WBW! I know it's summer, but we're going back to school! What does the education system look like in your world? Is it standardized or trade based? Required or for certain people only?

OMG THIS IS TOO WELL-TIMED ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

Okay so before I answer this question I was JUST about to make a post about this new story idea I came up with (or rather the characters of said story). Because working on Beyond Time and Space has made me physically and mentally exhausted, I decided to step away from it for a little bit, take a break, and ended up starting something new in the process (BTaS isn't going anywhere, don't worry)

Working title: STARPOINTS

The story is a huge wip right now, as I only started this week and am building it from scratch, but on the surface it's an ensemble piece about 5 students attending an academy set in a galaxy quite far from ours, all while trying to defend the school and said galaxy at large.

So I guess with that in mind, let me answer your question: What does the education system look like?

I'm going to base this off on what I have so far, when it comes to a comprehensible beginning for a story lol

Basically, the students are enrolled into a standardized school, very similar (as of now) to the primary and secondary school system set in America. The students are split into classes based on grade level up until the four years of high school, where grade level can mix and merge in most classes.

Within the first week, I'm assuming the end of it, there's a "welcome back" assembly held at each high school. After that assembly, the school takes a field trip to the high school's academy equivalent (so like, the high school the main cast of students attend to is called "Golden Rings High School," and them and all the other students take a trip to "Golden Rings Academy"), where an event will be held; a skill test, rather. The students are split into groups of five, take on the test together, and the first group of students to succeed the skill test are sent off invitations to the high school's academy, where they'll receive a different, more free form of education that has the benefit of transgressing the school's curriculum in order to prepare the students for a more... intense life.

I got this idea for a school system while doing research on fantasy schools (which doesn't properly fit my story, as it's more of a space-y sci-fi thing, but I guess it does have a lot of fantasy elements??). I ran into an article that made the statement "Today I want to explore how to develop the educational systems of your world... and why 'fantasy school' isn't always the answer." It got me to reconsider some things about the previous setting, which was an ordinary school, and that would've worked just fine, too! In fact, it was kind of preferred, as the idea was going to kind of be identical to my other story idea Kill the Kitsune, where the students have this supernatural thing happen to them and now have to live in their normal world in unnatural circumstances. Something like that. BUT! Thanks to this one article alone, I ended up with something that could be twice as neat, tailored to the needs of my characters, and that I can sprinkle ordinary school elements into during- or after-the-fact. It's a good call, I think ! I'll link it here, just in case anyone wants to peek at it.

(looking at the ask a third time and realizing I should rephrase lol. So, I guess it's... Semi-standardized? It leans more to a trade school but has sprinkles of the standard curriculum in it. It's less required for a certain amount of people, and moreso offered to a certain amount of people; 5, to be exact.)

Dumping Thoughts About STARPOINTS

Long story short, I decided to make a small site somewhere for STARPOINTS, mainly so I could store info I wouldn't mind sharing with the public at one point or another, and I just now figured out that it allows blog posting?? So cool ^^

Figured I'd share said blog post here because, you know, it's STARPOINTS related.

No idea what to put on this post tbh, just a neat feature I discovered. Guess I could talk about STARPOINTS?? lol

One thing I'd like to note is that, as time went on, I really started noticing how the content and story progression of STARPOINTS is very similar to my own experience throughout high school. Won't go into any huge details, but as my traditional education journey comes to a close, I'd like to take the opportunity that is this story to really reflect on everything and the choices I made; the things I regret or could've done differently. Still trying to decide if I want my characters to have it better or worse, or equally as tough, as I did lol. With how things seem to be going so far in terms of writing, let's just say things snowball, as some point.

Hopefully I'll be able to articulate and express my ideas well. That's my greatest fear, as someone who's been really struggling with just... thinking, in general, as time went on. I don't know what's up with that, to be honest, but I won't let it stop me; all the more reason to spend as much time with this story as possible.

Speaking of story, it's almost STARPOINTS's 1st birthday! I started conceptualizing the idea on June 3rd, 2023 (that was a very hard time for me, looking back), so I consider that to be the project's anniversary. Maybe I'll make another blog post then to celebrate :)

I guess that's all for now. Nice to brain dump for a little bit. Back to work ^^

STARPOINTS CONCEPT ART - FOCUS SUIT

Literally just got done developing some new article of clothing, so why not make it the first official post?

Since STARPOINTS has been in progress, I've always wondered how I could incorporate the human cast visiting the Igmus in a fairly comfortable fashion. I wasn't sure how I felt about having them wear spacesuits 24/7, and I wanted to try finding an alternative anyway, so after doing some light research regarding soft sci-fi clothing and whatnot, I finally managed to create my first full attempt at this...

Introducing: the focus suit! (ignore how sloppy the art looks, I was having a very hard time with drawing this morning)

To quote the above image, the focus suit is "a form-fitting suit made of synthetic material, created with the intention of [protecting] the user from potential harm that may come with traversing the Igmus galaxy. Made specifically for those not native to the galaxy." On the left is an blue print of the suit as I was mapping out its look, and on the right is the final suit. Not the prettiest, but certainly gets the job done, I believe.

The colors on the blue print image are labelled as different functions of the suit. In red is the "Life Lights," which signal potential life within the user that wears it by detecting their pulse. If there is one, then the lights are bright; if the pulse weakens or goes away, the lights begin to dim.

In blue is the "Heat Sustainers." Basically, they aid in generating and maintaining heat in areas of the body that are or could be sensitive to colder temperatures. The areas I chose were the fingers, the elbows, and the toes. I had considered on adding it to the chest, too, but i guess I changed my mind and decided to replace it with this next feature.

In green is the "Protectors." They're parts of the suit that are tougher than the rest of it to protect certain parts of the body from experiencing damage that could take them out completely or interfere with how they interact with other things. These areas also include just sensitive areas in general. For this, I chose the knees, the knuckles, the elbows, the chest, and the abdominal area from top to bottom. I also included a visor to protect they eyes. (honestly, a visor couldn't beat a helmet if it tried; it's a lot safer, but we're just talking about casual/general things with this suit)

I had also attempted to dress up one of the main characters, Kazz Trailblazer, in the suit. Kazz is one of the human characters that travels from the Milky Way galaxy to the Igmus galaxy, so having him wear the suit would most likely - or definitely, rather - be necessary.

Somehow it looks a lot better on him than the base I used.

Something I added to the suit while putting it on Kazz was what I called "Pull Binders," or "Gravity Binders." They're placed under the soles of the suit's feet and act as a way to ground the user in a similar way gravity would on Earth, keeping them mostly pulled down and binding them to the surface under their feet. This feature works both with and without footwear like socks or shoes on.

I also included a drawing showing the way his clothes completely cover the suit. Not mandatory, but most certainly a coincidence and a neat thing I felt like noting.

I think that does it for the suit! Trying to come up with clothing items for a space-centric sci-fi setting can be a little tough, even if it's soft sci-fi, so I somewhat decided to start with how humans would adapt to their new environment first, then expand a little bit and explore the clothing preferences for the species within the Igmus.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go take a little nap.

My very short story of how Points of a Star!Naminé dated for the first time.

Can we hear more about Points of a Star Namine's relationship with Maleficent? And does it change much between the original, future timeline, and the new timeline?

Ah, funny thing, I’ve been working on a fic between the two for a while now, set before Points of a Star. Because it is an important relationship, one that shapes the Starpoints Namine down to the core. 

Here’s a fragment of that fic, under the cut. Still working on it!

“What’s too late?” Ajax asks, teal eyes bright as they watch her face carefully. Searching for the tears she will not let fall. 

“Maleficent...” she shakes her head. “She’s a Sin.”

An inhale of breath. He knows what that means, they both do. 

Maleficent is gone now, possessed by the monsters that destroy everything in their path. 

“We have to stop her!” Ajax moves to stand, to rise. 

Naminé shakes her head, presses a shaking finger against his lips, leans forward. “No. I’ll do this.”

“You sure? I can help,” he tries. 

“Yes, you can. But I...” she swallows. “I need to take care of this.” Of her. 

Ajax inclines his head, showing his understanding. But he doesn’t really understand. Not this. 

Because here is the truth: Ajax is too good for her. She loves him, cares for him, not in the way of romantic or sexual love, but he is much better than she is. 

Because where Ajax’s teacher died for him, died protecting him, where he fought and killed his teacher’s murderer...

Naminé will kill her own mentor instead. 

Maleficent will die by her hand. Her single remaining hand.
