“Right then, everyone, that’s it for today.”
And with that, the makeshift Quidditch training session came to an end. Ever since Black had banned the sport, the students had been training secretly on their own, either at Imelda’s flying competitions or here, on the small Quidditch pitch near Marunweem. But now they dispersed and left the pitch in small groups.
Only Sky Johnson stayed behind. Waiting, leaning against one of the small goal rings, his expression as serious as ever.
Leonard Lovegood stowed the Quaffle away in its chest and then looked up. If he was surprised to see Sky, he didn’t let on. A grin flashed across his face and he walked over to him.
“You should smile more,” he said, “I'm sure it shines bright enough that wouldn’t need Lumos.”
Sky blinked. “It’s broad daylight, Lovegood.”
Leo chuckled. “True. That wasn’t my best one. But I’d still love to see you smile sometime.”
Sky didn’t respond.
“Come on. I’m sure even you can do it.” Leo gave Sky a gentle nudge on the cheek.
Sky’s face grew even darker – something Leo would have sworn was impossible.
“You’re a pain in the neck!” he grumbled.
Leo raised an eyebrow. “Not what you said yesterday, sweetie.”
“Shut up!”
Sky moved before Leo had time to react. With one hand, he grabbed Leo’s arm and pulled him closer; with the other, he grabbed the back of Leo’s head, as he crashed their lips together in an angry kiss.
Leo let out a startled sound, but his surprise didn’t last long. He leaned into the kiss, freeing his arm from Sky’s grip to reach for his collar, pulling him closer, turning the angry heat of the kiss into passion.
He’d keep his mouth shut for quite a while now. And in doing so, he’d surely find a way to make Sky smile after all.
