cool hi !! it’s me mary again on a new account with three new babes ( and one old one ). as always, please like this if you want to plot !! my babes need connections.
maisie king | 20 | yale student | the eleutheromaniac
cool so first a definition of eleutheromaniac: a person who has a passionate mania for freedom.
maisie is an only child, adopted when she was two after her parents realized that they couldn’t conceive ( they’re older ). her father is a professor of combinatorics and her mother is a professor of classical french literature at yale. she grew up in a pretty academic family, and because she is an only child, her parents thrusted all of their highest hopes on her. no pressure.
she was a fairly high-achieving kid, growing up in an academic family certainly helped, as, between her parents, she pretty much had all of the academic bases covered. she was always a straight-A student, was the first chair flute in high school orchestra, captain of the soccer team, won some awards in model un, and was basically... perfect. yeah. perfect, but boring.
as was expected, she went to yale but continues to live at home because there’s really no reason not to. she’s not necessarily the most sociable person, but she gets along just fine.
unfortunately maisie really just hates her life. everything that she’s ever done has been so expected, and she really feels like her entire life has been those moments in movies where it’s like “this was never my dream. this was your dream, dad.”
anyways so yeah she’s been real depressed for like a long time but her parents are really weird about it ?? so she’s kind of just ‘tabled’ it as best she can, which is of course really not at all. she’s repressing it. it’s bad.
about six months ago she took all of her savings and took off to europe without telling anyone. her parents sent someone after her and brought her back and they haven’t talked about it since.
she’s been told her whole life that she’s something special and she really does not believe it anymore.
honestly she’s pretty certain that another sort of episode of her running away will happen, she doesn’t really know when and she really doesn’t feel like she’s in control of it at all, which scares her.
ross lowe | 28 | firefighter | the credulous
shoutouts the dean forester gif, what a wonderful time. obviously this is not the age that he will be played at, *sighs*
cool so ross was born and raised in stars hollow, he has some unspecified siblings at this point. his dad was the fire captain for a long time and ever since he was little ross wanted to be a firefighter.
he wasn’t much of an academic, but he was well-liked and well-known in high school. he played some baseball and football, and was a pretty good member of the stars hollow high community.
he didn’t go to college. neither of his parents did, and it wasn’t like he was expecting to be an academic at some point, so he just didn’t go. he took a year off and drove around the country after high school using the money he saved up doing odd jobs, but that was it for his post-high school education.
he’s a pretty simple guy, honestly. he’s nice and kind but a little bit tactless if i’m being honest.
when he was twenty-four, he met a woman who was new to town in grad school at yale, her name was ria. she was brilliant and beautiful and they got along nicely enough and were married within a year of when they met.
she went on to teach at yale which was more demanding than either of them expected. there were already a lot of problems in their relationship but her new hours and her expectation of him to be like a house husband really exposed a crack.
so like anyone would, they decided that they would have a kid to save their relationship. ria got pregnant pretty quickly, but by the time their son, charles ( chuck to him ), they were separated.
so basically now ross is a twenty-eight year old recent divorcee with shared custody of a son. this is not where he expected to be and he’s not happy about it.
ria manan | 27 | yale professor | the resplendent
ria is originally from hoboken, new jersey. her parents are both first generation indian-american. they were fairly well-off, her father was a chef in the city and her mother managed a hotel. she went to private all-girls catholic school, which was a weird thing that happened. she was a very successful student, to say the least, and graduated college a month out of her twentieth birthday. from there, she went straight to grad school at yale.
she lived in graduate student housing for a while but really just yearned to feel like an adult, so she moved to stars hollow and got her own place. she enjoyed the small town vibes, as she had never lived in a place like it before and just really took to it.
one of the first weekends she was in town, she was wandering around looking sort of lost when a nice, handsome man ( ross ) came up to her with the classic line ‘are you lost ??’ they were married within the year.
right out of graduate school, her mentor hired her to be a professor of early modern literature, serving sort of as his apprentice until he would retire shortly after.
ross was sweet, but he honestly wasn’t everything that ria needed. they were on completely different levels, personally, and frankly she felt that he was contemptuous of her academic life. her new life as a professor so shortly into their marriage didn’t help.
their relationship wasn’t going to well, but she remembered hearing stories of her parents’ marriage before they had children, and how they reached a new level of cohesion in co-parenting. they seemed happy enough still, so she figured that maybe that would work for her and ross.
shockingly, it didn’t. by the time their son charles was born, they were already living separately and were in the midst of divorce proceedings.
so that’s where she is now: twenty-seven, freshly divorced, with a son that she shares custody of who isn’t even a year old.
caroline st. martin | 18 | chilton student | the pristine
okay so it’s important to note that ‘the pristine’ is more ironic than anything else. it would probably be more what her parents think of her than anything else; she is the master of feigned innocence.
caroline is the youngest of three, and has an older brother ( leo ) and an older sister. they both seem like nice, well-adjusted people, but somehow caroline ended up spoiled rotten. must be a youngest child thing.
she’s real in to social hierarchy. she’s a senior now, which means that she’s been paying her dues for long enough and has made her way to the top. she thinks that she’s a pretty good manipulator, but that’s really up to debate.
she really believes that she’s rachel green from friends, you know ??
she’s actually pretty smart, but she enjoys being a bitch more than she does academics. she would rather spend a saturday night just wrecking people at parties than studying. and honestly, being the youngest child, her parents don’t really care what she does.
she’ll probably go to brown or something. her grades are good enough, and her parents can afford it. coming from chilton makes getting into an ivy league all the easier.
i feel like there’s more to say but she has a pretty basic character arc, i guess.
if you’re here now, congratulations !! thanks for reading through this, it is hugely appreciated.
