takeba's stubborn insistence on pushing herself forward reminds him of aki - which isn't her fault, really. that idiot is just the standard by which shinji measures one's obstinacy. the good news, at least, is that he doesn't quite consider her on his level yet - the bad news is that, at least with the addition of this incident, she really isn't that far off.
well, it's only good or bad news if shinji decides to voice these thoughts, which he isn't. the akihiko-stubbornness scale is exclusively internal.
“ hang on. ” shinjiro looms over her, arms crossed. it's in his nature to be intimidating like this without really meaning to - though on the other hand, takeba has never seemed especially put-off by him. nor has the vast majority of sees … for some reason. it's honestly a little baffling sometimes. “ are you fine? ” the question is asked while he points at the vivid red stain on her side, brows pinched. “ d'you got enough juice to heal that? ‘cause if not, then you’re clearly not fine enough to keep goin'. ”
if she does, and is simply choosing to reserve her stamina for someone else's sake, then that's another conversation entirely - one shinjiro is totally down to have. he's never had a problem harassing anyone into taking better care of themselves - though, if he's being entirely honest, he does feel a little bad for doing all this when takeba is acting so … quiet? so unlike her usual self.
but it's necessary, regardless. he's seen what happens when this conversation isn't had.
