Jiaoqiu's frustration is understandable. Needing to relearn things is hard. It was not the same for Moze when he was brought to the Yaoqing, but it was still a complete relearning. Yes, losing one of your five senses is different from losing life as you know it and worldview, but relearning is still relearning.
Moze can be a very patient man, and although his own guilt for his friend's injuries have begun to settle, he still want to help him as much as possible. However, he has no wish to baby him. The shadow guard makes sure Jiaoqiu knows he's there for him without actually interfering unless needed to. Sometimes he wants to interfere, but refrains from it.
Today is one of those days. The foxian's mood is easily spotted and when he cuts himself, Moze speaks up. It gives him a snappy reply in return. Unusual, but expected. Letting the emotions out is good, or at least that is what Jiaoqiu always tell him. So he remains silent.
An apology soon follows, which is also expected. "I know," he simply replies, fully aware that it's not him that Jiaoqiu is frustrated with. "No, I can't 'swoop in' and fix everything for you, but I can be here for you on your bad days." Moze is not good with words and emotions. He is not a comforting man. He's a straightforward man with no filter, socially inept and very duty bound. However, he does care deeply about Jiaoqiu, which is why he says the next thing, despite it being something he had told himself he would never admit openly. "You're my friend, Jiaoqiu. Aren't friends meant to support each other?" Just like he had never openly stated that his views about the Disciples and Feixiao had changed with time and knowledge, he had never straight out told Jiaoqiu that he views him as a friend. Not until today.
