I made another little birthday present:
Yarn:
Schachenmayr Catania (red, green, orange)
The brown yarn is Baumwollschulgarn from my grandma's stash. It might be as old or even older than I am!
Patterns:
I used "Rose in a flower pot" by Dani West as sort of basic guideline, with very heavy modifications (see ravelry here).
I really didn't like nor agree with the pattern instructions, so I winged a lot, starting with the pot base which the pattern wants in dc but I wanted more stability so I used hdc instead.
The pattern also has instructions for a rose. Started it, didn't like it, so I returned to a rose pattern I had used before (back in 2018 for the little Alistair's Rose Bag): Rose of Spring by Maz Kwok (free pattern on her blog). This pattern also comes with leaves and I used that and the rose pattern without changing anything.
As for the "soil", I just started with 12 hdc (i think?) and then hoped for the best, because the brown yarn is a little thinner than the rest. It worked out really well and fit perfectly actually.
Another modification was adding a little stem:
That's basically a 5 (or 6??) chain start, closed to the round and then crocheted around a few times, with some increases at the end as bas to sew the rose on. For stability purposes, I put a match inside the stem, and through the soil to the pot base (without the burny head).
The whole thing was a birtday present for a friend and the recipient liked it and that made me very happy.
Maybe next year I'll make another little pot, a sunflower perhaps? Two is company after all ^_^
