jiyan was just about to retort, when he was promptly silenced. he stared at her beautiful lips covered by a single finger before tearing his gaze away. it was certainly not very respectful to stare but that didn't stop the general from being confused. why was he supposed to be quiet again? the teal haired male looked around, wondering if he had not been picking up on danger around them. it... didn't seem to be the case, no tacet discords, no weird signs.

curiously leaning down to match her height, the general tilted his head. "why should i be quiet?" a small smile appeared on his lips, seeing her up close. "did i bore you with my stories, m'lady?"

"i wasn't worried." he quickly clarifies. the pitch of his voice sounds monotone as ever when the words leave his lips. cloud knew by now that ying yue was a capable fighter and could defend herself just fine. which begs the important question... "who's blood is it?" did she slay an enemy? or perhaps it belonged to an innocent person, a citizen, or one of her friends? while he didn't want to get involved, he couldn't deny that he was a little curious. that and he was totally worried, ready to help if necessary.

despite being in this world for a while now, cloud was still unfamiliar with certain customs, places and people. one part of him wanted to survive, doing whatever was necessary, the other wanted to be left alone. usually, the latter turned out to be his strongest desire, it was on par with his wish to return to his homeworld. thus it came to no surprise that the blond cherished solitarity and avoided others. unfortunately for him, others did not avoid him. it almost seemed like there was a weird aura around him that drew people to him, whether he wanted or not. so, here he was, leaning against a wall with arms folded over his chest. in front of him an all too familiar face. initially, he had planned to ignore ying yue until she would leave on her own, however plans change. "no. i just don't feel like talking."

the blond mercenary watches in silence as the female walks past him, clearly walking in the direction of their current task. however, instead of following her, cloud remained exactly where he stands. a hand is placed to his hip before he calls out to the other. "wait. i'm not helping for free." so what if a random stranger was in need of assistance? cloud failed to see how it was his problem or why he should get involved in the first place. fighting was one thing but running errands? sounds like a real hassle. "i want money."

The words were oddly familiar and so it should be no surprise that they had brought about a deep aching in his chest, tugging at his heart. And boy, did it ache. Mithos quickly realized why that was; they were words he often thought to himself, a genuine wish of his, or at least of the hero, who he once was - he searched and searched for such a possibility, though the chance for some "other choice" never showed itself. Sometimes it never would, that was the cruel truth. It was upsetting, but one had to face it at some point. A half-elf was often the scapegoat, and eventually ... they either would become a villain, or continue to be a victim.

He wonders to himself how to answer, and avoids looking the other in the eyes as he does so. ( Did he even deserve to shed some light, provide advice when he didn't even know where to start himself? )

Whatever.

"Well, there's no point dwelling on what could or couldn't be," he would soon respond,

"it's just a waste of time to keep wishing; you either do or you don't, that's all... so what do you choose?"
