In the South (USA), one of the comfort foods is...
it’s the unofficial state dish of South Carolina.
Oh, I didn’t know that! I love the concept of state and national dishes though... Come on, Tumblr community, what is yours?
California has the best fruits - flavor king (and queen) pluots, strawberries, citrus fruits, mountain fuji apples, guavas! Re state dish, some say it is our baja fish tacos, ciopinno (fishermen stew), classic burgers (in-n-out), French dips, etc, but while they are all great, our international restaurants (Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Salvadorean, French, Thai, Cuban (one word Portos which is a bakery), etc.) cannot be beat!
OK, I had to google ‘pluot’ (and I dared to think I knew something about food! Ouch!) and boy they were interesting! Haven’t seen any of those here though. Hmmm. But yeah, fruit - just had a banana, plum and orange juice smoothie for breakfast this morning…
I had an inkling that California is known for its multicultural cuisine and for many health-driven concepts; kind of alternatives to the heavier cuisine largely elsewhere in the US. I would love to sample all of that…

In Illinois, or Chicago at least, that chi style hot dog. Mustard, diced onion, green relish, celery salt, and sport peppers. Most people get really offended if you try to put ketchup on it. Also I guess deep dish pizza but super thin pizza cut into squares is the way to go ��
I am sure they are lovely, but personally I am not that keen on hot dogs or deep dish pizzas, but I love the super thin pizza! Here big round pizzas sold by piece are called “New York style” - don’t know if that is an appropriate name or not, though.

Vermont - Sugar on snow in early spring, during maple sugaring season. That's thick hot maple syrup drizzled on snow. Follow it up with a pickle!
