Movement: Italian Rococo
Medium: Marble
Genre: Statue Garden
Baroque brought the concept of multimedia pieces to the forefront. While this wasn’t uncommon in art, it became popular over the 17th and 18th for statue pieces.
In the case here, it actually helps to tell the story that is being represented.
Actaeon was a hunter who stumbled upon the goddess Diana while she was bathing, because she is a goddess who’s divinity is tied to her purity, her being seen by a man naked is sacrilegious. Depending on the telling, he is ether cursed as a deer, or remains human, but either way he is attacked by his own hunting dogs.
having the statues seen here in nature next to the water, it allows for a more detailed telling of the narrative for the audience to appreciate.
