Giorgio de Chirico - Autoritratto con tavolozza (self-portrait with palette) - 1954
Considering that it is SO COLD HERE, like unbelievably cold, all we want to do is be inside, which stinks because hello, we're in FLORENCE, why waste your days inside. But anyway, it hasn't really stopped me too much, however if I didn't have my big puffy "you look overweight and pregnant because that jacket is taking over your entire body and you have your tourist camera and purse zipped up underneath your jacket" jacket, I would be stuck inside my equally freezing apartment. So this passed weekend we went to the Galleria Accademia where we saw the statue of David who is MASSIVE, and by massive I don't mean what you think I mean....he is hands down the most gigantic yet beautifully sculpted thing I have seen. We couldn't get over the fact that he was once a huge block of marble, and someone was just like "hey let me work my magic and make a naked human out of this." It's amazing, I couldn't even do that if I had 100 years of practice. It was interesting to read about it because considering my lack of historical background, I knew nothing about David. He was originally placed in one of the Piazzas outside and then was moved to this museum to be protected, which was probably a good call. Also, I took a picture of him, and you're not supposed to, but yeah right like that rule is going to be followed....so shhhh, don't tell anyone...
