2. Ready steady go!
4. These 2 struts I really just had to take as the were... this was the most easiest part of the work.
7. This was the first time I was able to use some of the ikea screw connectors I was collecting over years. But it was more difficult than expected as Ikea uses very porous chipboards inside its boards and they are badly glued as well. So two of for screws instantly bursted out but it was easy to fix: Either you can take a wood glue, mix it with chippings and squeeze it into the whole. It will be a perfect fix where you can get a perfect fix for the connectors, now. But you can take what ever wood element you want. I had no dowels at hand so I took an old brush which did a great job, too!
9. Now it was possible to lock the struts on the head (from bed 1) and foot (from bed2) board. As you can see everything fitted together perfectly. You have to be really carefull as this is critical for the whole construction.
11. I did not like the top of the commodes sticking out, which would have been a problem when you pass by at the corners of the bed. So I took all covers and put them a little bit backwards so they would generate a straight front.
Anyway it was necessary, so I could drill in screws later on which would fix the commodes to the back and front boards. As i mentioned earlier these boards are mostly hollow and they will only offer some fixation options at their edges.
17. It’s necessary to connect all elements with screws like furntiure connector screws or once with a wide thread.
19. Everything fits together and is really stable. So I have to deconstruct it and built it up again at the place where it should finally stay.
23. My personal Ikea-Malm_Hack to get a real storage bed (combination of 2 Malm with 4 commodes, 2 nightstands and 1 headboard). Quite difficult work as most boards are just hollow inside! But in this blog you can see how it worked.
