I picked this little trinket up on Rhodes, Greece earlier this year. It was one of the daily gifts from @hostelrhodesstay left on our pillows each day. I Haven't taken it off since. I've had a pretty challenging year in all aspects of my life. Since then I've been trying to embrace a little more of what makes me "ME". Sounds corney I know. But ever since I put this little trinket on things have settled down a little... I ran across this article which is pretty cool. For those of you that do not know, Matt and I we are starting Stay Hostel in Grand Rapids. Google offers $300 in adwords a day for non profits. However, for other businesses that are for profit Google offers Google Entrepreneur. They have a variety of resources available to utilize. It looks like it could be a great networking tool!

Hostel Detroit is an exemplary model with its fresh history and down-to-earth presentation that we will build off in order to create the ideal hostel for GR: StayHostel.

Plans to hang with the founder this past weekend fell through but she has said that she will be in GR next month--the minds shall meet then.

StayHostel: Our Reasoning, A Declaration

The emphasis of StayHostel is, first and foremost, a safe and inexpensive place for people to stay in Grand Rapids.

This will reenforce the flow of certain demographics into our city: those that wish to better understand the community at its roots as compared to those that are just passing through, hoping to have a few cocktails at their hotel bar before going to bed rather than exploring the city and discovering what it has to offer. 

A better understanding of GR and what it means to live here will lead to a stronger tourism market. This city is fantastic in a million different ways and the more that visitors realize this, the more people will hear about what makes GR so damn great. In addition, the tourism industry has only the large hotels that are in the heart of downtown. Most of these have rates that exceed $100/night--this is far too expensive for some people to stay for more than a couple days, not to mention that the atmosphere that some of these hotels present is not what everyone is looking for.

StayHostel will be a homey and hip place to stay, located between the poles of Downtown and the neighborhoods of East Hills and Eastown so that both areas will remain accessible. The appeal of these areas is obvious and too attractive not to take advantage of the apparent differences that make each of the city segments phenomenal places to be.

Currently, we are in the early stages of StayHostel. We are conducting market research and conversing with people that we are certain will help create a buzz around the idea of opening a hostel in GR. We will begin searching for an ideal location in the coming weeks.
