That’s Tails, by the way. You know, Terminator Tails, the one everyone compares to Sonic Lost World. You know the picture, so I’m not bothering to share it. There’s too many other panels I want to show.
I think it’s really cool that Tails uses Sonic own move against him. I know we haven’t see Sonic being mean to Tails yet, but knowing the future, I’m always glad to see Tails hit Sonic.
Or I could look at this another way and say “Aw, Sonic taught Tails how to spin attack! He’s a cool big bro!”
“What are you saying, you love that zone!”
I’m... not sure what the problem is here? Sonic probably just never thought of bringing a friend along. Or maybe he thought it was too dangerous for anyone without his speed and fighting ability. Has Tails ever tried just following Sonic and saying “I’m coming with you!”?
Or maybe there was a whole conversation sometime before the comics where Tails asked to go with and Sonic said “No way, you’re too slow/stupid/weak, leave the heroing to the hero.”
There’s no way to know. But either way, Tails has been turned into a badnik (the word robotisized isn’t used), which at this time in this world means that some metal has been added onto him and he happily obeys Robotnik’s every command. It seems that the anger he has for Sonic, but doesn’t normally show, has become his driving motivation as a badnik.
Then Robotnik hits Sonic with the wrecking ball from the original Green Hill Zone boss. And Tails has second thoughts...
You can see it on his face. He’s remembering that Sonic is his friend. I think I have to take back what I said about the art earlier. While, yes, there are a good handful of panels that look very weird, Tails’ expressions are very well done. His armor design is cool, and he is very cute.
*Fangirl squeal* Look at him!!! Go Tails!!!
Tails defeats Robotnik, and the impact knocks the badnik armor off!
Alright, I guess I should compare this to Archie again. This Tails is already super cool and capable, while Archie Tails is forgotten because there’s other older Freedom Fighters. Again we have this difference between the comic that stayed closer to the games and the comic that went in its own direction. Right now I want to say that StC is objectively better, but really it comes down to preference of what you want to see. Do you want to see Tails or Sally in the spotlight as second most important character? Also, I’m just comparing the first two issues of each series. Each has years ahead to develop the characters, story-telling style, and closeness to the games in any way.
These three panels argue that Sonic really does care about Tails. He’s even impressed by Tails’ spin attack! They sound like brothers. They younger one usually gets in trouble, but he can also prove his worth. And the cool older one cares about him, but also makes fun of him a little.
And then there’s this:
I don’t know what Eldorado is. There will be some culture references like this that I won’t get, either because I’m too young or too American, and I probably won’t bother to post them. But they are part of this comic, just like (more American) culture references were part of the old Archie comics.
