So Stellina does the "I must pee at the perfect place and time" thing, too? Every collie I have ever owned does this, lol, including my current puppo Bella who is about 3 months younger than Stellina. Anything work for you to er, hasten the process?

it’s probably Bad Training™ but honestly i’m very passive about my dog’s bathroom habits. neither of them will go in the house unless under extreme duress, and are both very capable of holding their bladder for longer than i’d expect. so i give them the opportunity to go outside at regular times, and if they’re not interested or being picky then ok, back inside we go. i used to spend literally an hour sometimes walking stellina outside at night until she peed, and i’d get so frustrated about it, but then i realized: hey, fuck this, if you don’t want to pee then i’m not going to force you to pee, you’re going to have to figure this out on your own. i take a similar approach with picky eaters - my job is to provide the opportunity (i.e. two meals a day of healthy food, or regular potty breaks, etc), the dog’s job is to take the opportunity. i can’t force the dog to eat/pee, they just have to learn to take the opportunities as they’re presented to them.

stellina went through a phase a few months ago where she decided she just... didn’t want to pee in the yard anymore, only on walks. like for two weeks she would pee on her morning walks and then maybe once more in the evening. well i wasn’t going to walk her 5 times a day so i gave her time in the yard, and if she didn’t go, she came in. eventually she dropped that idea and is now back to peeing in the yard normally. her house training has never regressed but if it did, it would be a matter of treating her like a baby again - outside every hour, crated/pen when inside. but if she doesn’t want to pee outside then, ok, she doesn’t want to pee. you can try again the next time we’re outside.
