New Steakhouse Alert: Johnny’s Steak and Grill Opens in B Hotel Quezon City
There’s a new steakhouse that just opened right in the heart of Quezon City serving high-quality but affordable steaks. While I do fancy going to those expensive high-end steakhouses once in a while, their relatively high prices usually makes them options only for special occasions or important celebrations. But I found a new restaurant that can satisfy my cravings for imported Certified Angus steaks with prices that can let you visit it any day of the week.
Johnny’s Steak and Grill is the newest restaurant that opened at B Hotel Quezon City, a midscale hotel under Bellevue Hotels & Resorts. I had a cozy staycation last year at B Hotel QC during its soft opening months (read about it here) where I got to sample their other dining outlets including the Lobby Cafe and the Pastry Corner, but now they are really leveling up their guests’ dining options with the opening of Johnny’s Steak and Grill.
Opening just last month, Johnny’s Steak and Grill is a casual 42-seater steakhouse located at the ground floor of the boutique hotel. You can find B Hotel QC at Scout Rallos Street, just a few blocks away from the busy commerial areas of Timog and Tomas Morato. It is easily accessible from the street with ample parking so you do not even have to enter the hotel to dine here. While there are many other restaurants all around the neighborhood, Johnny’s Steak and Grill offers a refreshing and casual steak dining experience that is easy on the pockets.
The Hungry Kat was invited along with some of my fellow food bloggers to visit the newest dining destination here in Quezon City. I’m sure I will be spending a lot more time at this restaurant because it is also much closer to my residence.
The steakhouse’s interior echoes the unique signature style of B Hotel QC - bare-faced concrete, red accent walls, and a timber cladded wall providing an impeccable contrast and creating an overall rustic approach. Johnny’s Steak and Grill is an extension of the hotel’s vintage and industrial, sleek and snazzy motif intended to turn heads of newcomers and garnish the in-house guests’ stylish staycation with the best savory steaks!
The menu at Johnny’s Steak and Grill focuses only on their specialties - the steaks. You won’t find other non-essential items like salads, pastas, seafood, chicken or other restaurant dishes but only steaks as your main and only courses. That’s absolutely fine with me because the main reason I go to a steakhouse is obviously for their steaks, and definitely not their salads.
All the steaks at Johnny’s Steak and Grill are premium imported steaks ranging from as low as P640 for the 300 grams US Beef Rib-Eye in 109D steak to as high as P4290 for the colossal Rib Steak Tomahawk with its 850 grams of cowboy-cut bone-in rib eye steak. These are displayed in a chiller for the diners to see so they can choose their appropriate cuts.
Johnny’s Steak and Grill also boasts of an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs prepare their sumptuous steaks on the grill. You will know exactly what you are getting as you can watch your steaks from the chiller to the grill and to your table.
I was in steak heaven as we were presented with a medley of their best-sellers accompanied by their signature side dishes. Each order of steak comes with a free side dish that you can choose from among their six available side dishes.
Among these are the Mac and Cheese with sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheese in creamy macaroni; Roasted Vegetables; Onion Rings; Truffle or Cajun flavored fries; Corn, Peas and Carrots; or Steak Rice.
Now let’s try their steaks! My favorite among all the cuts I tried is their Certified Angus Beef Prime Rib-Eye Steak (P960). This 220-gram steak is so flavorful and beefy, with the same level of quality that you find in other high-end steakhouses. The steak is tender and goes well with any of their side dishes like these roasted vegetables.
The steak portions at Johnny’s Steak and Grill are quite generous. We all love to have our steak with rice so pair it up with their Steak Rice as your side dish. This classic beef fried rice comes with onion, peas and shaoxing wine and is really tasty.
The onion rings are also highly recommended with its crunchy breaded rings. These steaks are actually big enough for two persons if they are not so hungry, but of course I can handle this steak all by myself.
Big eaters should go for the CAB Upper Choice Porterhouse Steak (P1340) with its 280 grams of bone-in meatiness. You will be going home very satisfied after devouring this huge steak.
A leaner choice would be the Veal Boneless U.S. Beef Tenderloin (P990) offering a 280-gram portion of tender veal from younger calves. I do like my steaks with a little bit of fat on them because it gives it more flavor but I don’t expect anyone to be complaining about this one.
Finally, we also tried the CAB Upper Choice Prime Striploin Steak (P1170) with 226 grams of beefy goodness. Just look at the pinkish inner portion of the beef and you know you have a perfectly grilled steak. I was really surprised with the level of quality at Johnny’s Steak and Grill despite the more casual dining ambiance you don’t often sese at other steakhouses.
You also have four different steak sauces to choose from including Shallot and Red Wine, Peppercorn, Mushroom or Garlic Sauce. I like the traditional mushroom sauce for my steaks but the peppercorn was also interesting with its heavy pepper flavors.
One other item you can find at Johnny’ Steak and Grill is the Lamb Rack Frenched Cut Cap (P1100). This has 350 grams of bone-in lamb and it also comes with one side dish of your choice. The menu may be short and simple because of the limited space at the restaurant but you can actually cross-order from the hotel’s Lobby Cafe if you wish to have some of the hotel’s other outstanding dishes.
The desserts on the menu are also limited but they might soon be adding some new items like the Banana Foster and Mango Foster. These are scoops of Vanilla ice cream topped with caramelized bananas and mangoes.
One dessert item on the menu is the Truffle Chocolate Cake (P150) from their Pastry Corner. This luscious layered chocolate cake comes with ganache glaze plus a bittersweet filling. Other cakes and pastries are also on display at the restaurant depending on the items available from the Pastry Corner.
If you really want a relaxing and satisfying hotel staycation, then take advantage of B Hotel QC’s STEAKCATION promo where you can have an overnight stay in a Superior Room for two, breakfast buffet, plus Lunch or Dinner for two at Johnny’s Steak and Grill for only P4888 nett! That’s almost like getting a sumptuous steak dinner for free! The promo is available until October 31, 2016 so if you have any anniversaries or special occasions coming up, this would be a great family or romantic Steakcation.
B Hotel Quezon City is fast becoming one of the top mid-level hotels in the city with its outstanding service and five-star level amenities. The addition of Johnny’s Steak and Grill to its lineup of dining options will further enhance its standing in the highly competitive hotel industry. I love the restaurant's casual dining ambiance with its high-quality steaks at relatively affordable prices. Now, I can eat steaks a lot more often because Johnny’s Steak and Grill lets me enjoy more fabulous Steakcations!
