When Buffy first moved to Mystic Falls, she'd been successful keeping her life as a Slayer a secret from Jenna, Jeremy, and Elena. Especially Jeremy and Elena. The last thing they needed to worry about were swim team monsters, devil dogs at the prom, or vampires crashing Parent-Teacher night. 

But, over the past couple of weeks, she watched her Elena's life parallel her own. Living in a town infested with vampires wasn't exactly a surprise. They were everywhere. But, the fact that her cousin's best friend was a witch and that her boyfriend looked like Angel or could at least be Angel's brother or son set off warning bells in Buffy's head. 

Buffy tried to convince herself that it was a coincidence. After all, Stefan was a high school student on the football team and she'd seen him out in direct sunlight. But earlier tonight, Buffy was walking by Elena's room and she heard her and Not Angel talking through the door. The boyfriend was a vampire. His older brother, too. Elena was officially living Buffy's life without slayer duties. Elena sounded so scared and Buffy didn't want her to go through this alone the way she did; not having anyone until moving to Sunnydale. So, she came clean.

Buffy told Elena that the stories she used to tell her when she was a kid about a young girl called the slayer and her friends who saved the world a lot were not only true, but they were about her and her friends. Evidently, that was the wrong thing to do because Elena got even more freaked out. So, Buffy could do nothing but leave her alone to go patrol with Elena yelling after her that she'd better come back in one piece.

Buffy shook her head at herself for being so stupid as she approached the house coming back from a very short patrol when she saw a shadowy figure in the corner of the porch. She recognized the hair and the jawline. "Stefan, I know you're there," Buffy called out. "And I know what you are." The irony that these were the same words she said to Angel nine years ago wasn't lost on her. But, those were different circumstances. Back then, she was in a shut down Bronze ready to kill him for attacking her mother (which was actually Darla). But she was in a blind rage. Tonight, there was no rage or intent to attack and she made that clear in her voice. "Can you come out, please? I think we need to talk."

            'don't go' – the plea echoed through her mind. and indeed, katherine paused for a moment to let it go through her head. go or stay? was there an option? katherine was well aware that she was not wanted. that hasn’t changed much, has it?

Annie didn't know what had come over her. She'd already been in a bad mood all day, it having been the anniversary of her turning, and seeing Stefan like that with a total stranger, to her at least, just made something in her snap.

She could feel the panic rising already, her mind trying to piece together what was happening now versus what her body still remembered from all those years ago. It didn't help matters that Stefan had similar features to her captor, though not similar enough to say they looked alike, but with Annie's mind already in a poor state, it was putting things together that weren't quite right.

Did her captor always have Stefan's eyes? But then a blink and he was gone, and it was just Stefan standing in front of her, speaking in those soft tones and all of a sudden she realized that she just yelled at him over something that on a normal day wouldn't ever bother her.

"I.. I'm so sorry. I don't.." A shuttering breath escapes her as she closes her eyes, trying to will the panic back down, where it can't come back out again. "I don't know what came over me. That was just.."

Her hand flexes as she takes in Stefan grasping her wrist, but this time she can differentiate between what's real and what's not. She knows now that it's Stefan holding onto her, keeping her grounded. "Today's just been... a lot. I shouldn't have snapped."

It had been a while since Elijah had shared a bed with anyone. And yet here he was, in the Salvatore estate, alone with Stefan, who was slumbering blissfully next to him. He had no idea what was going on inside the original vampire at the moment. He had been struggling for some time with his thoughts, which were constantly revolving and giving him no peace.

How had he got here? His gaze went to the ceiling so that he wouldn't be distracted by the sight of Stefan. He folded his hands on his stomach. If his half-brother found out, the peace would be shattered. And a deep sense of protectiveness stirred in Elijah. Niklaus would be furious if he knew and would want Elijah to suffer. Whether it was because he was afraid that Elijah would rather stay here than go away with him or because he was losing Stefan as a ‘friend’… It was impossible to be.

Elijah glanced at the sleeping man next to him. The feeling intensified. He knew it, hadn't felt it for a long time. Thought it had literally died out after the last disaster. But here it was again. Warm and benevolent. Something he didn't want to miss. And he'd be damned if Niklaus would do anything to him. He would be incredibly angry and would rage if anyone so much as touched Stefan. Did he feel exactly the same urge?

Elijah reached out a hand carefully, touching the peaceful face gently, like a breeze. He fell in love with this man. It could hardly be described as anything other than what it was. A shallow smile played around his lips before he withdrew his hand. He turned on his side so that he could watch the man next to him for a little longer. Elijah couldn't get enough of the sight. It almost hurt.

"Oof, ease up on the frown, Stef." Damon teased, clearly amused by the sight of his forlorn baby brother as he saunters into the parlor. "Contrary to popular belief, vampires can indeed get premature wrinkles." He paused dramatically, gasping for effect. "Or, heaven forbid, your face could get s t u c k that way! Oh, wait… wouldn't that be just like now?"

          it felt amazing to wake up and feel stefan's presence right behind her, his strong arms wrapped around her. she felt ... safe. protected. which was odd because technically, she was the stronger one. katherine hummed softly, a smile gracing her lips. "i could get used to this..." she stated while she snuggled more into his embrace.

Annie wasn't sure what had come over her. She had never met either of the Salvatore brothers before, and when she had seen Stefan, the words had just blurted out of her mouth without thinking. He looked oddly familiar to her, but she knew full well they'd never met considering she'd barely been in town for a month.

"Annie Boyd." A smile then, hand reaching out to shake his to be polite. "Sorry, no. I've never met your brother. You just looked familiar, so I thought perhaps we'd met before but clearly I've mixed you up with someone else. That's my bad."
