Quick Rant
I usually don’t get annoyed by much, especially if the subject does not involve me in any way, but tonight I encountered a newly found pet peeve of mine. Hypocrisy. I intended to be on Twitter only for a few minutes, which extended to thirty when I noticed that everyone I went to school with was taking about this blasphemy. So I guess, three girls from a different school (one use to attend mine and that’s how my school was connected) got their nudes exposed online. One of the girls irrationally responded back by posting a screenshot of her camera roll which was flooded with dick pics. Literally, dick after dick after dick. But that’s not what angered me. Of course, as high schoolers everyone basically responded the same. “She’s a whore” “What a ‘thot’” and “Exposing dick pics say more about you as a person” and so forth, giving the girls more attention that they probably enjoyed. But that’s not what pissed me off either. I was kind of neutral to the whole situation, I really didn’t give a fuck. Until, I saw multiple tweets that a few guys would post: “I’m buying my daughter a flip phone with no camera” “I’m giving my daughter an Android because the quality is shit anyways” “Shit, I don’t even want a daughter” and so forth. I understand that these are jokes. I understand that these comments are made solely in spite of the moment. I understand the purpose for these comments are for retweets, self validation, an indication that you’re in the loop and you know what’s going on or whatever the hell it may be. But it does not fucking excuse guys to say shit like this. The depth of these statements are actually insults to girls. These boys say they don’t want a whore of a daughter, when they are the ones who ask for the nudes. They are subliminally indicating that it is the girl’s fault, and ONLY the girl’s fault, in a two sided scandal. That because we are women, we should immediately be smarter and have self control and if otherwise, we’re whores and that’s that. Where as, guys can be wreckless and douche bags and will still be granted “boys will be boys” THIS IS UTTER BULLSHIT. It reminds me of when schools enforce dresscode and use the reason that provocative clothing serves as a distraction. We get punished just so that boys in school can “focus” because “boys will be boys”. Boys have taken away the privilege for us to utilize our style as a way to express ourselves. It’s all bullshit. Maybe I’m just relishing my inner feminist out, but this is a very touchy topic for me.
