A little noir for yesterday's prompt: Steggy Week Day 2, Tropes and Genres @steggyfanevents
Steggy Week 2025
Day One: AU/Crossover
Time Variant Peggy Carter
A portal to the Void opens thanks to Kang the Conqueror. Many surviving time variants escaped and see if they can either go back to their own timelines or simply make a new life on this Earth.
One was Peggy Carter.

You know I love a good AU!! 🥳

“Shhh, shh! She’s coming—“
Peggy’s eyes narrowed as she stepped up to the table and tilted her head. “And why should my appearance bring silence?”
“No one tell her.”
She scoffed, “you know I’ll beat it out of one of you.”
“Yes,” Angie, her newest friend in the city said, “but at the right time.”
“Come now. I don’t like being left out.”
“It’s for your own benefit,” Maria interjected, sipping at her elegant glass, “you’ll thank us later.”
“I shan’t do anything of the sort,” she bit back with a smirk, “unless I know why.”
“It’s just a little fun between friends,” Natasha, the first friend she’d made in the city, finished with a mischievous eyebrow raise. “Don’t underestimate us.”
“You?” She pretended to be alarmed, “never.” They laughed and she took her seat, “sorry I’m late.”
“That’s fine. Pepper cancelled, some artist who she had to get artwork from or something like that.” The red head stated.
“And Carol and Monica send their regards,” Maria added, “but they’re international for the next three months for flight training.”
“So it’s just us,” Peggy grinned, “four’s a party.”
“And five’s a wake—“ Angie teased, “we ordered already but she said she’d come back.”
“I’m not too hungry anyways,” Peggy sighed, “our meeting was catered and I had to keep my mouth busy or I would have bit my boss’ head off.”
“Hmm,” Natasha grinned, “mouth busy you say?”
“Eating,” Peggy snapped back and the red head laughed.
“Well,” Angie wiggled in her seat, “my mouth was busy auditioning for the new broadway show.”
Gasps and congratulatory remarks and more were shared as they caught up. It was their monthly girls’ night out. She and Natasha and Angie saw each other more often, but the whole group usually met up at least once a month. It was a lovely circle of friends to have.
After a fun evening, they were stepping outside and saying their goodbyes.
“Do I need to be worried?” Pegy asked as she exchanged hugs with Natasha.
Natasha laughed and hugged her tightly, then patted her cheek. “Trust me, you don’t have to worry. It will either end good or the same as it’s been.”
“I detest riddles.”
“Don’t be a liar,” the redhead accused. “You love figuring things out.”
“Ugh, I hate that you know me so well.”
The redhead kissed her cheek and slung her purse over her shoulder, “another lie. See you next Sunday for that brunch?”
“I’ll be there.” They waved and Peggy walked towards her metro station. A man whistled and she flipped him off. He started to huff and puff at her but she kept walking.
Underground, a man tried to stand close to her and strike up a conversation. Peggy narrowed her gaze and tilted her head. “Do I look interested?”
The man immediately backed off and she smirked at him, “good boy.”
On the train ride, another man sat across from her and kept staring. After several minutes of this she leaned forward, “shall I gouge your eyes out now? Or do you need another minute to sear my facade into your mind?”
He moved seats.
As she hung her keys on their hook right inside her door, she sighed. Such as it always was. Date after date, men just didn’t seem to get it. Yes she wanted sex. But she was tired of that being their main goal. Even the ones pretending to be a genuine friend really just wanted to land her in bed. Over the course of her now 8 years in New York, she’d had what felt like hundreds of dates. Each more disappointing than the last. How could these men not get it? Women were more than a body in bed to be discarded once it had lost its shiny appeal.
So, she now treated men as they deserved to be treated. Predators that need to be handled. And she did. They called her the ManEater. It was her official nickname in social circles and at work. Perhaps it would bother her in another life. But not now. It was true and she would own it.
“Hey, it’s me, Michael, it’s just been confirmed that I’ll be in town in a few weeks. Can we actually go out to eat this time? I want that Ethiopian place you keep talking about. Dad says hi, Mum wants to know how it went with that bloke you had a date with a few months ago. She’s relentless. By the by, Lily says hi. See you then. Please don’t hire me a car. Pick me up like a proper sister will you?”
The message ended and Peggy flopped on the couch. She’d sent a car one time and he never let her forget it.
The frown on her face could have been seen from the moon. The bloke a few months ago had been a striking reminder on why there was no man worth his salt or worth her time. He’d been charming and inviting and said all the right things. She’d even started to have a dash of hope that this handsome man might prove her almost three decades of experience wrong.
Until they’d decided to get a cab to a pub and he’d practically pounced on her. A broken nose, cracked orbital socket, split lip, and a bruised collarbone were his payment. The cabbie was laughing by the end. She’d slap the roof and told him to take the brute to the hospital or the pier for all she cared.
So no. She was done with men as a gender. Her brother, a few childhood friends and the odd married man were good. But there were no more fish in the sea she wanted. And so she’d stopped fishing entirely.

Aim for the Heart (Chapter 9 Teaser)
It's Day 3 of Steggy Week over at @steggyfanevents! The theme is AU's and Crossovers, which means I would be remiss not to update Aim for the Heart as I tend to do once a year, particularly on this theme day.
Unfortunately the muse was a little slow on this one this year, so I don't have a full chapter ready, but there was a little snippet that I have already written, really loved and wanted to share!
I mean, Peggy has a party to go to now, after all ;)
Aim for the Heart - Read on AO3
Fic Summary: Though from her angle she couldn’t see too much of her surroundings, and the lights in the room were dimmed, she knew immediately that she was no longer in Howard’s lab. Bloody hell.
Chapter Teaser:
Peggy was slightly sceptical about shopping with Pepper, Natasha and Maria together, considering she hardly knew them. It was clear that the three of them were good friends, so for the first two stores, Peggy mostly allowed herself to listen to their banter as she discerned through the dresses in the rack before eventually settling for a couple to try on.
“Kinda tough, huh? Being fashionable.”
Peggy arched her eyebrow but didn’t turn her head from the offensive orange fabric that deigned to call itself a dress in front of her.
“I’ll have you know, Romanoff, that outside of army requirements, I’m actually quite fashionable.” She continued thumbing through the options in front of her before tugging on a dress made up of three contrasting shades of neon. “However, that word seems to have changed its meaning in the last seventy years.”
“I’d say the definition technically changes about every six months, so I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself,” she joked.
Peggy hummed, not taking her eyes off the dress.
“It’s not just the dress, is it?”
“Is this how you normally make friends?” she retorted. “Try to diagnose their troubles?”
“No, normally I fight them first.”
Peggy snorted, but finally looked over at the other woman.
“And for what it’s worth, Carter, I’m sure you made that army uniform look hot,” Natasha winked.
“Oh I certainly did,” she smirked.
“Steve ever see you out of it?”
“Twice,” she allowed herself to admit. Natasha had already made it clear that she and Steve were still as far from obvious as they were nearly 70 years ago, there was no shame in sharing certain facts. “Though the first time was really only a few minutes-”
Natasha’s low whistle cut her off.
“You work fast, Carter.”
“Oh, not like that,” Peggy scoffed, gently shoving her shoulder, which made Natasha nearly cackle. “I was talking about dresses and you know it.”
“It must’ve been good though,” she prodded.
“It was my favourite,” Peggy admitted. “But with the war I hadn’t worn it in years, particularly because it was only appropriate for special occasions.”
“So what was the special occasion?”
“I… had a message to deliver,” she answered.
“And it worked?”
“Quite well, for the most part.”
Natasha’s eyes lit up mischievously.
“What colour was it?”
