Notgeld of the Week #15 (10/21/2025) Berlintag #2
This set of 50 Pf. notes from Berlin highlights each of the city districts before they were absorbed into the city.
I'm missing number 1 and 5 :(
#2: Tiergarten, the central park of Berlin.
#3: Wedding, featuring the Gesundbrunnen health park.
#4: Prenzlauer Berg, the site of Schönhauser Allee and the East German counter culture hub.
#6: Kreuzberg, where Checkpoint Charlie and the Jewish Museum are.
#7: Charlottenburg, the site of the Charlottenburg palace and Kaiser Wilhelm Church.
#8: Spandau, where a renaissance-era fortress sits well preserved.
#9: Wilmersdorf, where the oldest castle in Berlin was built.
#10: Zehlendorf, which hosts two forested lakes.
#11: Schöneberg, the center for Queer life in the Weimar republic.
#12: Steglitz, home to the Bierpinsel "Beer Brush" an abandoned futurist restaurant.
#13: Tempelhof, the namesake of the old Tempelhof airport.
#14: Neukölln, the Bronx of Berlin.
#15: Treptow, where the Molecule Man sculpture stands in the Spree.
#16: Köpenick, known for the folk hero of Wilhelm Voigt who, in 1906, dressed up as a high imperial military officer, arrested the mayor of Köpenick, stole 4,000 Marks, and was Pardoned by the Kaiser.
#17: Lichtenberg, where Tierpark Berlin is located.
#18: Weißensee, meaning "white lake", is named after the tiny lake popular with swimmers in the summer.
#19: Pankow, the district with the largest population.
#20: Reinickendorf, the home of Dicke Marie, the oldest tree in Berlin, at over 800 years old.
