Tylko kataklizm mógłby pozbawić Angelę Merkel zwycięstwa w niedzielnych wyborach federalnych.  Jej ciepły uśmiech i strategia: „żadnych konkretów” znów wystarczą, by pokonać nijaką opozycję. [...]Il rispetto, signor Presidente, è qualcosa di prezioso e tagliente, che si può esigere solo quando lo si merita. La nostra non è terra che merita rispetto, perché noi per primi manchiamo nei nostri confronti, e soprattutto abbiamo mancato nei confronti del sangue della storia. Un piccolo e mostruoso esempio, signor presidente, il clown del testosterone ce lo diede nella giornata della memoria, esattamente un mese fa: mentre l’Europa rabbrividiva ancora – forse per convenienza o per tradizione, ma non è importante – il clown debosciato inneggiava al fascista mussolini. Quindi, Signor Presidente, quale rispetto mai si potrà elemosinare, fin tanto che non riprenderemo a rispettare davvero noi stessi, impedendo a gente come questa di affacciarsi sulla scena internazionale, insinuando l’idea distorta che tutti gli italiani siano in realtà degni proprio di questo circo? E signor Presidente, anche il termine dignità è prezioso, e andrebbe usato con cautela. Perché anche la dignità è qualcosa che avete provato a sottrarci in questi anni di trapezisti, nani, ballerine ed ora anche buffoni. Ma la dignità di gran parte di questo popolo, per fortuna è incedibile. Provi a pensare, signor Presidente, se per caso in questa Italia per la quale lei esige rispetto, domani al suo posto dovesse esserci proprio quel buffone debosciato … Ci pensi un po’ e poi me lo venga a raccontare, il sacrificio dell’Italia, e dei suoi figli migliori. Venga ancora a dirci che siamo una grande nazione. Ascolti il futuro che ci si prospetta, di gente che continua ad avere a cuore il bene proprio, le proprie mire dittatoriali, le sedie del potere … mentre noi qua si muore, di fame o di lavoro. Prima di esigere il rispetto del mondo, per una volta dovreste provare a rispettare noi. Almeno quelli – e siamo tanti – che il rispetto per voi, per i buffoni, per la mafia, e per lo stato l’han perso da un pezzo

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's main challenger in this year's federal election said on Monday that recession-struck Greece should be given more time to implement its reforms even though this would cost more money.

Peer Steinbrueck, a former finance minister, said it was necessary for crisis-stricken states to get their budgets in order and consolidate sovereign debt. But Merkel's center-right government was too focused on consolidation, he said.

"I think the application rate of these consolidation programs must be widened, must be extended, in particular in the specific case of Greece," Steinbrueck said, speaking in English at the London School of Economics.

Peer Steinbrueck cautioned that German taxpayers could foot the bill from loan guarantees.

“We were ready to pay money for the costs of German reunification - something all of our neighbours welcomed despite the bad experiences they had had with us," he said, a reference to the Nazi regime.

“Now is time that we have to ask ourselves the question: what is Europe worth to us?”
