Saint Elias, also spelled as Elijah and Elia, was a Hebrew prophet and a miracle worker in the kingdom of Israel. According to the Old Testament, he was quite a notable saint, equal to Moses, and was known for his numerous good deeds during his life. The highlighted icon that you see was painted in the early 16th century. It depicts St. Elias in the wilderness, with scenes of his life around him. Nowadays, the icon is held at Vologda State Museum-Reserve, a museum center of the Vologda region.
