How interesting. Stelis louisae pictured. Parasite of resin (rather than leaf) using bees such as Megachile campanulae. Both parasite and host members of groups sometimes given their own genera.

Stelis tarantula (Luer & Hirtz) Pridgeon & M.W.Chase synonym : Pleurothallis tarantula Luer & Hirtz synonym : Effusiella tarantula (Luer & Hirtz) Luer
Today's adventures: the nursery open day at Chester zoo. They have the national collection of pleurothallids! Only the first flower picture is a pleuro- it's a stelis. Not sure which subspecies. Also pictured are the octopus orchid, a phragmipedium and a catasetum.
Stelis carnosilabia. This miniature orchid has a really pretty lip and such rich coloration! The almost black maroon color of the sepals really makes that lip pop up. #orchid #stelis #greenthumb #indoorplants #flowerstagram #flowersofinstagram
Stelis purpursceas
Stelis australis.... A nice colorful Stelis from the pinelands of Georgia. This group is likely to be a nest parasite (lays eggs in nests of other bees) of species in the uncommon Megachilidae bee genus Trachusa, so overall a very rare bee on an uncommon to rare host. Nice to see that such things still exist. This one was collected by Sabrie Breland. Photograph by Brooke Alexander.
