More than 30 million years ago, camelids were small, gazelle-like animals, without really any of the adaptations that make them so recognisable today. Stenomylus lived in the savanna of North America. Camelids would much later spread to Asia, Africa, and South America, giving rise to modern camels and llamas, before going extinct in their original North American home.

Stenomylus – вимерлий рід дрібних представників родини верблюдових (Camelidae), що мешкали в міоцені (близько 30 мільйонів років тому) в Північній Америці. Його назва походить від грецького στείνος, «вузький» і μύλος, «моляр».
