Ever draw anything that you are like, “Okay, done.” Then you post it only to hate it a minute later. All the flaws start to glow to the point that you yank the post down. You then redraw, retweak and re-everything. Then you say, “Okay, done!” again. Post it. Then find yourself hating the drawing once again. Going through the cycle of taking it down, retweaking, re-posting, taking it down, retweaking, re-posting, and on and one. 

Yeah, this is the piece that is doing that to me. 

So, here’s me walking away. It’s pill popping, foul mouthed, hates the world. cursed lucked mage, Eric Carter of Stephen Blackmoore’s series. I love the series. I wanted to do some fanart but I can never get Eric’s face right. He always there in the back of my mind but never at the tip of my pen. But after giving him a nose job, a whole new hairline, a thinned out face, a few more wrinkles here and few less wrinkles there, coloring it but putting it back to black and white, I am calling it quits and moving to the next drawing.

Just go read the books. Eric Carter deserves a fandom. If you like John Constantine and The Dresden Files, you’ll like this series.

Eric Carter fanart. I was inspired by  Adrian Tomine style of flat coloring. I wanted to see if it would work with my style. The line work came out well but I still miss the shading. But, hey, I wanted to try something different. It has a 90′s indie comic feel to it. Like something Fantagraphics or SLG would put out. The tattoos are apotropaic wards. For example, on the back of both hands are symbols called “witch marks.” They can found all over Europe. Especially on older buildings where the marks were carved into the wood and stone works to protect both the buildings and the people in it from evil.

Inktober #13 - “The Slayer”

Way behind but still chugging along. This Slayer is Carter from the Eric Carter series by Stephen Blackmoore. The last book came out earlier this year and though it didn’t end on a cliffhanger, I want more. Carter is such a great nothing but bad luck character. I would love to see someone like Netflix adapt it for a series. I have no idea who would play the lead but I would like some lesser known actor. Someone plucked from nowhere because he just aced the audition.

The background is a bit of spoiler. But not enough to ruin the books. Go read them. Make them popular. I want more books. I want a series too.

Side note: I have a bad habit of drawing characters left handed because, surprise, surprise, I am very left handed. But Blackmoore went out and wrote that Carter is a righty. Darn it, I had to draw Carter as one. But you will always be a lefty to me, sir.
