Your daily Dodgers starting pitcher injury update
Stephen Fife, who was set to get the start tonight, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder bursitis. Matt Magill has been called up from Triple A Albuquerque and will make his Major League debut in Fife's place. (via about fifty people on Twitter)
Magill spent some time in big league camp this spring. He posted a line of 4 IP (in three games), 1 R (zero earned), 3 H, 1 BB and 8 SO.
It's as if the pitching gods are laughing at us for being so arrogant as to presume we had too many starting pitchers. That's the only feasible explanation I can come up with for the fact that this is the ninth starting pitcher the Dodgers have used in twenty-three games (x). NINE starting pitchers, and the month of April isn't even over. Not that you need perspective here, because this situation is clearly preposterous, but the Dodgers used just nine starting pitchers all last season.
It's too early to start panicking. But I won't pretend for one second that this isn't really, really disturbing.
