(*) = In the JP version, Judar is saying that getting the “idiot king” (バカ殿, baka tono) would've been good/better, referring to Sinbad.

I tried to reverse search the source for this one, but I couldn't find one, so I assume it's from a deleted blog.

I edited the colours!

The image on the left is the original scan, and the image on the right is the one I colour corrected.

I did some quick edits with Level Corrections 👍

Unfortunately, the Magi: Vol. 12 - Nininbaori Tournament Omake wasn't included in Vol. 20 when I checked, so I got the paper myself to scan for my JuAli crumbs 🐈‍⬛☀️

Interesting that Judar calls Alibaba, "Alibaba-kun" (アリババくん, Aribaba-kun) with an honorific in Ohtaka's misc doodles and omake extras.

I'm gonna headcanon that Judar at first calls him with an honorific (pre-Kou Empire arc), but then eventually drops it and just calls him Alibaba as they get closer/get to know each other better.

In the Magi Manga, Judar just calls him "Alibaba" in their interactions on the Dark Continent in the Kou Empire arc (Magi: Ch. 265+)

I could ramble about them more in a separate post ^^

Me: In my HCs, early on in their interactions, Judar literally has a bully complex with Alibaba

I imagine that Judar initially gets curious about Alibaba because he is his exact opposites in personality and motives/goals/ideals and worldviews.

But at first, he'd think it'd be fun to "bully" (bother/pester him) as much as he can.

My friend Jaqui was just like, "Alibaba is the much softer one of the two, but for some reason I can imagine Judar doing everything he can to bother him."

I got the Kagerou Daze anthologies cuz I wanted to scan them!

My Ene rare pairs are WINNING!!! 🎉🥳🎉🎈

I REALLY wanted to get my hands on the KuroEne and MaryEne coloured illusts so I could scan them in HD 🥰💞

Snakes feel more lethargic in winter due to the cold... 🐍

I find it so interesting how both KuroEne and MaryEne are Snake/Bunny themed (technically, with Mary being 1/4 Medusa), but are exact opposites as ships in terms of relationship dynamic.

Rambles

Unfortunately, the KagePro anthologies don't have digital versions available online, so I bought used physical copies from JP sellers secondhand.

I got used physical copies all in a batch for cheap ^^

I also took pictures of my recent KagePro merch today! I'll post them on main eventually 👍

I always format my posts on Desktop so I can have the 30 image limit. Mobile has a 10 image limit.

I scan at 600 DPI at Letter size 8.5 x 11 in, so the file sizes end up being like 5000 px x 6500 px.

Though obviously the book is smaller than a regular sheet of paper so it's more like 3200 x 4200 px per Anthology page

Misc Rambles

Btw I got used copies of all Kagerou Daze Anthologies for cheap, so there are some small bends in the cover and little black specks of dust/particles/dirt on the cover/pages that came from the original seller.

Thankfully it's not too noticeable, and the books are in fine enough condition for me to scan.

I would consider it standard B-grade quality (irt secondhand merch sold from JP sellers). Noticeably used and has some minor dents and such

Since the Book Jacket Covers of the KagePro anthologies are plastic, I can scan them normally and put the printer lid down and close it, so it creates a white background and even lighting.

When I put just the book down and close the printer lid, the printer is still a bit open (since it can't fully go down with a book) so then the background is gray/black.

Since normally, the printer lights up the scan with a bright white light to create even lighting

Scanning Process

KuroEne Winter Anthology Illust by Osora 🖤 💙

This is the initial scan I did. It's slightly blurry near the book binding

At first I was like :/ cuz I was wondering why the blur near the book binding is happening again.

I got the Mekakucity V's Blu-Ray (BD) box to rest on the book to hold it down.

Turns out that while it was holding most of the book down, it's not heavy enough to hold the book binding down (which naturally lifts off the scanner glass)

Heavier Weight

So then I did a test. I tried holding down the BD box with my hands as it was scanning

Which is tiring, since I have to stay like that for 2.5 - 3 minutes and try not to move to not fuck up the scanning (or else it'll create disconnected lines/parts in the scan)

And now it's not blurry...

So then I tried holding it down with the BD box as it was scanning. Then I put something heavy like a decade old heavy laptop over it.

It works.

I posted the clear versions up above!

Though, after I scanned the pages on the other side with weight on top of the book (Tsukihiko and Mary illust), it created small bends/creases on the KuroEne and SetoMary illust pages (near the book binding)

Cuz the Tsukihiko and Mary illust are more "pulled in" by the book binding.

I'll keep that in mind for next time but thankfully it's not too much of a big deal since I already scanned the pages before that happened

And plus the parts going into the book binding aren't very important (on the KuroEne and SetoMary illust)

...

I scanned the KuroEne and SetoMary illusts first (and I noticed the Tsukihiko and Mary illust pages are "more pulled in" by the book binding.)

The pages are sticking out more from the book binding (probably from the original seller). The page is easier to lay flat than the other pages, so I was able to scan it easier.

After I scanned the other sides (pages on the back), I noticed it created a bend on these pages but thankfully it's not too noticeable.

And it can't be helped. I had to put down something heavy cuz it was the only way to scan these pages with the book binding

I also scanned them before the bend happened, so it's fine. It's not on anything too important anyways. And thankfully it's not too noticeable

I'm gonna keep in mind for next time to scan any inner illusts first (and also just scan the coloured illusts I like first), and then scan ones that are more pulled in by the book binding.

Also since these KagePro anthologies are used, I noticed that it's B-grade (used condition). There's some small black specks of dust/particles that stick to some of the colour pages, like the KuroEne one. I saw it when it showed up in my scan 😔

I was kinda annoyed by that, but I got these as a batch for cheap so it can't be helped. Thankfully it's not too noticeable, and I could always edit my scans manually if needed to get rid of the black specks/dust 🙏

Also the Kagerou Daze Anthologies are much cheaper and easy to buy secondhand copies of on JP sites.

I would be MUCH more careful with Mekakucity V's Blu-Ray (BD) Limited Edition's Production Booklets and Kagerou Daze -in a day's- Blu-Ray (BD) Limited Edition's Original Materials Booklet

Since those are more expensive and more limited in quantity

...

Also I just noticed.

The colours of the Anthology arts on the wiki are different compared to the colours of the colour pages, when I have the actual book in front of me…

Also, not all Anthology colour page arts have been posted on the Wiki, so I'll scan some more arts sometime 🙏

My guess is that people took photos? Or the scans from back then were more lower quality/res.

I've scanned most of the ones I've listed here, but I still need to scan the others. I just haven't posted them on my socials yet.

For the ones with sets, I'm just gonna post a few pics for each as a preview. Just gonna put LQ images for now. Tumblr has a 30 image limit so I'll eventually replace them with links to posts (once I slowly post them overtime)

My scans are mainly focused on my fave characters. Scanned from my own personal collection. Hobbyist amateur scans, so please excuse the dust 🙏

I really wanna try again to make sure the scans aren't blurry near where the book binding is...

I feel like it went better for my .dsd/V scans cuz there was only a small slight blur near where the book binding is.

This, however, has a blur over 1/8 of the page, so I'm not satisfied yet. I wanna retry again

Ig it's better than having nothing at all, since we only had the photos of the MekaDan's Movie Route concept arts at angled photos at Exhibitions in Japan.

Since I laid the book down flat and had the Mekakucity V's Blu-Ray box resting on it

I'll have to try again so the Kagerou Daze -in a day's- Production Booklet can be laid flat.

I feel like it's too risky for me to put only 1 page down on the scanner.

It'd get rid of the black background and have even lighting, but then the book would have to have something propping it up.

It'd just be too easy to accidentally bend the pages like that.

Also, the page lowkey sticks to the scanner glass after being laid down.

So I try to prick it off with my finger nails when I take it off, to scan the next page.

I have no experience irt debinding books and removing book bindings, so I won't even try. I try to be as careful as possible to not damage my books.

I have 2 copies of .dsd/V and I've been using one of them for scanning.

I'm gonna be more careful with my Mekakucity V's Booklet scans and Movie Original Materials Booklet since I only have 1 copy of each of them.

Basically, whenever I have free time and have the opportunity to scan things.

Sidu's Artbooks

I have Sidu's artbooks, .dsd and .dsd/V to scan, which is what I'm most interested in, since .dsd/V's special illusts have not been scanned online in HD before.

The .dsd/V artbook is the hardest for me to scan because the book is bigger than my scanner, so I have to scan a single page multiple times (at least twice) to get all sides.

I have all Kagerou Daze anthologies physically.

I bought them for cheap through a secondhand resale, cuz unfortunately, there were no digital versions I could rip.

Most anthology comics were translated by @/pyralisa but there were some coloured illustrations that weren't posted online.

I'd also like to scan the Anthology illustrations in HD.

For example, I have the Kagerou Daze -from the darkness- illust of Kuroha and Azami as a postcard without text, so I'd like to scan it.

Just gonna use the official merch preview images for some of these.

I got the Kagerou Daze -in a day's- Complete Limited Production Edition Booklets.

It comes with a holographic Ene card, and a postcard version of Ene (both her Music and Movie design on each side)

I scanned the Ene postcard since I wanted to have it in HD.

This art hasn't been scanned before in HD.

I took photos of the entire Kagerou Daze -in a day's- Production Materials booklet (100+ pages)

It includes the MekaDan's concept arts, as well as some animation key frames and the storyboards for the whole Movie.

Due to Tumblr's 30 image size limit, I'll probably post these in parts in separate posts eventually.

I also wanna scan these eventually, but ofc that will be time consuming so I'll go at my own pace.

I applied colour corrections to my photos to make it easier to see.

Mekakucity V's Limited Edition Blu-ray Box

Not my photos/scans.

Mekakucity V's Limited Edition has the KagePro MVs in HD, as well as the Limited Edition Booklets, so I got my hands on it (both digitally and physically)

The Limited Edition Blu-ray Box came with 2 booklets that contained the production images used for the KagePro MVs, as well as the storyboards.

I don't think that Mekakucity V's is very urgent to scan, considering the entirety of Mekakucity V's Production and Storyboard Booklets have already been scanned online by professional scanners.

Most production image pages were cross posted to the KagePro wiki for easy access.

With that being said, I do want to scan some pages myself since Outer Science's pages are really dark, and I remember seeing some early scans that got the colours lighter.

I'd like to try my hand at scanning it too. The booklet is much smaller, so it'd be much easier for me to scan

Again, I don't think this is very urgent to scan since the Official Visual fanbook mainly contains early KagePro arts, but I'll put it on my to-do list for the future.

Disabling reblogs for now because I wanna finalize my scans by trying to remove this "Moire texture" from my scans using this Descreen plugin first.

I wanna descreen my scans first to remove the grainy texture.

Editing for colour corrections actually doesn't take too much time for me.

Since my scanner scans slightly lighter, I just use Level Corrections to edit the colours to try and make it as close to the OG art as possible.

The grainy Moire texture happens when you scan printed works.

I think there's a plugin that can do it, so I'd have to look into that first and try to figure out how it works.

Wanted to give a little update :)

The bias is so real. I mainly prioritize my favourites first 🖤💛💙

It's a shame that the Outer Science illust wasn't brightened for the artbook (similar to how it is in the .dsd/V merch) to make it easier to see.

I can see the art better in my own scan, compared to when I have the book in front of me... 😭

Wanna try looking into the descreening plugin because I want to remove the Moire texture on my own personal scans using this descreening plugin

Though my solution is to ask my scanlator mutual Bas if I can't figure it out/get it to work

I wanted to remove this texture on Sidu's .dsd/V artbook Kuroha/Saeru illust (and also from the rest of my scans), since the illust is really dark, and I wanna make the scan clearer to see for viewing and archival purposes.

It's just that the Outer Science illust is where the Moire texture is morenoticeable due to the dark colours.

It's more noticeable here cuz Saeru's illust is so dark. That's why I wanted to use the descreening plugin.

I also considered going to the local library or my school's library to try and see if they have a scanner big enough to scan the book

Though admittedly I'm a little worried about bringing my artbook out of my room and into a backpack to carry with me 😭

I don't want to accidentally bend the pages.

But Ig I got 2 copies of Sidu's .dsd/V artbook for this very reason. I bought 2 just in case, so that if one gets damaged, then I'd still have the other one in completely safe condition. I got both the black and white cover version.

Unfortunately, me handling the book sm caused me to accidentally bend the bottom corner of the Outer Science which has the Summertime Record (Haruka) illust on the back 😭

My white cover version has 1 accidentally bent page and thankfully it's not too noticeable or on anywhere important.

I also scanned the Outer Science illust page a couple times before that happened.

If I can't get it work on my own, I'm probably gonna ask Bas to see if he can look into the PS plugin for scanning purposes (to descreen scans and remove the grainy texture)

Bas is a scanlator mutual of mine who runs a fan-scanlation team and has been into animanga 🏴‍☠️ for 15+ years.

So he can rip the raws of any series that's available digitally for you.

He's so based 👍 He is really experienced with scanlation.

I also learned how to rip digital scans from certain E-book sites, which is how I ripped the KagePro Light Novels and Kagerou Daze manga volumes in JP.

But my methods to rip scans definitely aren't as good as his.
