BJU graduate and Bryan College President Steve Livesay is facing more public scrutiny.
Phillip Lestmann, a tenured professor of mathematics who has taught at Bryan for 40 years, had been fired. The professor was criticized by the administration for having helped organize an "opposition group" -- and that charge has many saying that disagreeing with the administration has become a firing offense, making academic freedom impossible.

The version of the Guide released last month only vaguely resembled its predecessor; it was doubled in length and featured substantial changes to both the publication process and what happens to students’ work after it is published. The updated version of the Guide also eliminated clauses in the 2009 version that protected student publications from undue censorship and added multiple statements about the importance of obeying and honoring authority.
