New Qld public hospital to refuse some services for religious reasons

The Queensland premier has opened the state's first major new public hospital in almost a decade — at Springfield, south-west of Brisbane —

A new publicly funded hospital in Queensland Australia will not provide abortions, contraception, or voluntary assisted dying due to religious policies. The government's support of such a place means they don't really care about the health and rights of women and those most vulnerable.

Today QLD parliament voted against Katter's proposed disallowance motion that sought to remove prescribing rights of MS 2 Step from nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives. With only two Katter Party members voting yes to the motion.

This outcome helps protect access to essential healthcare for people across QLD, particularly those in remote and regional communities who face additional barriers to care.

This means qualified healthcare professionals can continue to provide safe, timely and evidence based care.
