the use of bondi by the queensland state government to criminalise supporters of palestine in this state is a fucking joke when you consider they didn't even bother to organise a vigil or fly flags half-mast on the day of mourning a few weeks ago
Brisbane Mural Uses Farnham Lyrics to Test Queensland Hate Speech Laws
Sydney artist Scott Marsh created the South Brisbane mural drawing from Farnham's 1988 duet 'Two Strong Hearts' with Olivia Newton-John, using the phrase alongside Palestinian solidarity symbols. It highlights Queensland's new March 2026 laws—the first in Australia to ban 'from the river to the sea' and 'globalise the intifada'—which carry up to two years in jail for public displays that menace, harass or offend. Police are investigating the mural and pro-Palestine works by local artist James Hillier, who removed pieces after a complaint, while human rights groups warn the rules threaten satire and free expression.
As Queenslander what the fuckkkk is wrong with yas??????????
Goodbye to funding in healthcare, hello to privatisation of healthcare. No more bulk billing! Satalite hospitals will be de funded! More ramping. Wait times for a bed that doesn't exist. No wage rises for healthcare staff.
Say goodbye to public transport 50c fares
Say goodbye to abortions
Say goodbye to power bill discounts
Sighhhh.
The stretch of Queensland from Mackay to Cairns was known as “The Red North” in the 1930s and 40s . During this period, the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) was the driving force behind the Unemployed Workers’ Union, which provided vital assistance that helped many ordinary people to survive the Great Depression. https://www.robpyne.com.au/about/far-north-queensland/
I don't talk about state politics or nursing very much, but I feel very compelled to talk about this.
The Queensland Nurses and Midwives Union (QNMU) is sending down a ballot now on whether or not to launch industrial action against the Queensland Government's absolutely dogshit new wages and working conditions deal. And the cherry on top?
THE GOVERNMENT IS THREATENING TO STRIP US OF OUR BACKPAY IF WE USE OUR LEGAL RIGHT TO STRIKE.
Words cannot explain how angry I am with this government. I'm not with Queensland Health, but fuck me, if this does not go unchallenged, it will set a very dangerous precedent. David Crisafulli and Tim Nicholls, you are SCUM. Absolute slime. Go fuck yourselves.
On 12th July a group of prominent Australian transphobes are having a rally in Magandjin (Brisbane) to call for changes to the Sex Discrimination Act to exclude trans women.
There is a counter protest being organised by Queer Solidarity Magandjin.
It would be good to see some support from cis allies, especially cis members of the LGBTQIA community.
We've seen the assualts on trans community in the US and UK, even here in Queensland with the state government's ban on gender affirming care for under 18s. The right in Australia are trying to open this up as a battleline here too.
It's time for cis allies to step up.
The fact that people voted for LNP when one of their main running points was ‘throw the kids in (adult) jail’ is fucking sickening. Not one ounce of empathy or understanding of prevention of youth crimes to be found
