Another quick thought, but what if STEX characters would look like some sort of a train-centaurus creatures?

I headcanon that the Polar Express is like Santa Claus in the stex universe (closer to the dutch Saint Nicholas), and that the Polar Express was a train saint

I had a thought which lead to a headcannon and now you all have to hear it

Okay, for starters I recalled a lot of people in this fandom like to make the Stex characters very human like or put them in full on human aus. Then I remembered something about diesel engines, you have to be very careful about the fuel you put in it or it's just a bad time for everyone... Which lead me down this spiral of thoughts.

So, Greaseball is the one who started off this train of thought and who it is mainly centred about. But if diesel engines can have only certain fuels, then as a human that would translate to them having a very strict diet. Probably even food intolerances and allergies, limiting what they can eat. But, since they're dating Dinah she can make them so many safe foods that actually taste good.

Next up, the electrics... Honestly, I can see them eating only "pure" food. Mainly a vegetarian/vegan diet but can and will eat only expensive meat. The entire ideology is it has to be free from any chemicals and no guilt would come from eating the food they have. Electra would probably eat a lot of salads. Though, I can also see them not being able to handle rich foods.

The steamers, no dietary restrictions or anything like that, but I can see them having more of a food culture based on how they prep it. In other words, they like to roast, boil and steam the foods they eat... Hell maybe even BBQ on the occasion. Rusty might have a more mixed diet since he works with the freights a lot? Not sure.

I don't think the trucks, freights or coaches would have any restrictions but would have a similar case to the steamers. It's more based on their jobs?

For example, the freights would have more finger food/packed lunches. They are more represented as the working class, so I can see them eating food that's fast to eat like sandwiches, or left overs. I can definitely see CB just sitting back with the most picnic like packed lunch.

The coaches I believe would have the most variety, but they each have a preference. Dinah and Buffy would have the biggest variety since they can cook, but it's more like diner/cafe food. Ashley and Carrie would be more little snacks and orderves (I have no no idea how you spell that word).

For the trucks... I don't actually know. I don't know much about them so I can't say. But, I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings about this! So please don't be afraid to add to this!

Dinah The Dinah Car Random Headcannons——————————————

🥣Dinah is the youngest of the coaches, I based this on how Frances Ruffelle(London 1984-85) and Jane Krakowski(Broadway 1987) both around 17/18 when they were performing as Dinah, and in general on how she acts and sounds quite young.

🥧Because of her young age, she is a role model to many other young coaches who want to participate in races and become coaches to champions(guess that would make them coach champion?) so she’s very adored by many.

🩵Dinah’s favourite role model is Dolly Parton, Dinah loves her music, admires her kind heart and adores listening to her southern accent.

💛She is a natural brunette, but dyed her hair blonde to have a more American ’blonde bombshell’ look to her + Greaseball really likes it.

🛼She’s been racing for a long time, so she’s a master on the track because of her experience. She knows perfectly when to take off and put on the brakes. I honestly think out of every coach and freight in the yard, she’d be the best to race with.

🥣If she ever dealt with a customer who was rude to her and her other waitresses, she’d spit in their soup.

🥧Dinah would bake cupcakes of whoever the champion winners were. Every year it would be banana cupcakes frosted with peanut butter with chocolate bacon(Elvis Presley’s favourite type of cupcakes) for Greaseball. And for Dinah it would be pound cake or vanilla cupcakes.

However, when Dinah set out the batch of chocolate and cookies and cream cupcakes for Rusty and Dustin when they won the championship, Greaseball just stared down at them depressingly.

🩵She’s the most friendliest in the yard, she’s very welcoming to new trains that were moved to the Victoria Apollo theatre and to engines and coaches who are just passing by.

💛Dinah and Dustin get along really well. She’ll sometimes even visit him at the freight yard and give him brownies she made for him, and he’s always flustered and very polite in exchange and would give her cool rocks he found.

Rusty has coupling rods that look like leg braces

Cursed Caboose concept @doodley-doodleghost and I joked about that I’m kind of in love with now and might draw later:

They can swivel 180 degrees at the hips and neck. Their spine just does that and the internal organs in their lower abdomen and skin just sort of stretch to accommodate.

Sometimes they swivel in their sleep so they look dead to anyone who isn’t familiar with their anatomy because their head is the complete wrong way compared to the rest of their bodies. They do end up feeling sore/numb when they wake up though cause it’s like sleeping in any weird position.

Non caboose who have a caboose parent only get one(1) swivel position, either their pelvis or their neck but this trait only lasts one generation(2 has been seen but it’s rare)before they lose it completely(unlike their extra brakes that last 3 generations or ears that last about 6).

“Bifrost Dinah” can pivot at her hips, she finds this very useful for working in a small cramped kitchen.

Slick can Pivot at her neck, she finds this useful for freight runs and their side hustle. They also find it useful for when she wants to prank someone “exorcist style”(it use to scare Hydra so bad for the first few years of them knowing each other).

STEX Headcanon: Train Marriage

Trains don't typically get married in the same sense humans do - there's generally not a formal ceremony or legal arrangement. Marriage for trainfolk mostly boils down to a romantic commitment over the long term and usually cohabitation - a couple that is obviously romantically linked moving in to a shed on their own would be a clear signal that they're paired off permanently (or aiming to be, at least). It could also be sharing the same room/bed in a larger shed (such as in Flat-top and Dustin's case). If allowed by their yard, trainfolk may also sometimes incorporate their partner's colors into their own livery in a subtle way.

Some trains do get "human" married as well, but there's usually some extra impetus behind it - Dinah and Greaseball did so more or less as publicity stunt, for example. Even if they are human married, you'll rarely hear them call each other husband or wife - partner is common as is calling someone "my engine/coach/freight".
