I think even though they are definitely in love w/ each other - like, in love - their relationship could come off quite one-sided seeing Nikolai is such a baby about showing affection openly. As in, he isnt sure how, so his way of showing affection is like, allowing affection to happen to him in the first place?

Maxies aware of that though, doesnt push him, he slowly introduces him to it and that it’s ok. And he smooches him a lot. And holds his hand. And hugs his arm to his chest. And Nikolai learns to show affection eventually and they do cuddly gay shit Ffffhhckk
