Blessed AntoineXBunnie moment #5806 🥰🥰 She carry!
Man, there’s a lot of subtle moments of Sonic caring about Amy while he’s in Werehog form in both this comic and the game. xD
This issue isn’t much, but halfway through when night falls, not only does Sonic change to fight all the Dark Gaia monsters with Antoine, Evan Stanley takes over as artist to draw the more dynamic panels of fight scenes!
Love how the light gore crops up because Dark Gaia monsters technically can’t “bleed”, so its a-okay. xD
Oh boy, one of the Dark Gaia monsters has a Master Emerald shard in it for Knuckles to collect! And Antoine has to stab it out of him? That’s metal a hell, its a good thing Antoine doesn’t faint right then and there.
What do you do when you have no joke? Mama Robotnik!
For the life of me, I will never understand Jon Gray’s insistence of including her in the Off Panels except out of pure randomness. But I guess that’s the joke. xD The Sonic spin-offs have come up with such weird stuff.
And that’s the cliff-hanger of this issue! Metal Sonic’s attacking Rouge’s camp and Eggman’s going closer towards the Zeti homeland from Sonic Lost World. I certainly remember Worlds Unite and how it handles most of these plot threads, but what of the one Metal Sonic appears in?
Guess we’ll have to find out. Who’s ready for the last issue before we go into crazy territory?
The first half of this issue was done by James Fry, who used to be one of the main artists before the comic’s big comeback in #160. I dissed him a lot for how he drew the characters rather disproportionally, but with the much better script its barely a problem now, and the way he draws ‘bots being destroyed is, like, the most detailed thing. His art isn’t as bad now! At worst, sometimes you’d get some weirdly goofy expressions from Chip here. xD
This issue is also the one to serve as a kind of “catch-up” to the plot of Sonic Unleashed, and it certainly feels rushed in places when they fit Chip’s love of sweets and important game details in just one issue. It does make me question why they fit the plotlines of the game into a big introduction arc for the reboot universe. The whole “Shattered World” concept is mostly just the backdrop of the main plot unless the narrative really needs to call attention to it with game events.
We’re really into the leadup to Worlds Unite now. I fully know what’s in store later, but let’s see how these individual issues hold up!
Edwin Huang didn’t do a bad job on this cover, even though his Mega Man art is far superior. xD
