Either way I def want Silver to learn an instrument. Piano seems like it would suit him and that’s something Shadow could teach him. Maybe also drums? I dunno. String instruments kinda feel right for him, tho I can see Shadow constantly getting on his case for trying to cheat using his telekinesis instead of playing properly with his hands *snrk*
Tho if I wanna be out there with something unusual, I can ABSOLUTELY see him playing a theremin. It LOOKS sci-fi-ish and it’s got a wonderfully haunting sound to it. I dunno something about it feels right
... Actually, come to think of it, piano would be a GREAT way for Silver to train the dexterity of his telekinesis. I mean his telekinesis is powerful as all hell but I always saw it as extremely blunt and lacking any finesse. I was already kinda thinking he’d use video games to a similar effect
Okay this is a LONGASS post so I’m going to put this under a cut. It goes into everything from “emerald abilities” to people with legit superpowers, to the concept of attunement
So when it comes to powers in the Sega Sonic universe, it goes on a scale. But first I need to explain that Chaos Emerald energy? It’s, I guess the closest analog I could liken it to, would be similar to the Force. It’s an energy that exists in all matter and in all living beings within the planet that birthed it. Everyone has at least minute traces of Chaos Energy in them because it’s the force that literally binds everything together
BTW, the terms “Chaos Emerald” and “Chaos Energy” (and their Sol counterparts if we’re talking about Blaze’s world) is historically somewhat new and not accurate to what they are and what they do. They are the Seven Servers (or the Seven Sovereigns, in the case of Blaze’s world)
Anyway, most people have a minimum baseline, meaning they have no powers whatsoever. If you gave them an Emerald they couldn’t do anything fancy with it. They’re just. Normal. They make up the majority.
The next stage up are the Emerald Users. These are the people who, if in possession of an emerald, are able to utilize its power to perform special abilities*
The next step up in a term I coined: the Indole (derived from the Latin word for “talent”). These are people like Sonic, Shadow and Silver. The naturally superpowered characters. Essentially, indoles able to perform “emerald abilities” without needing a Chaos Emerald in their possession, with the potential to either strengthen that ability or perform other feats with the inclusion of an emerald.
The rarest are the Super Users. A minority among indoles are able to ascend and achieve super forms with the use of all seven emeralds. It’s rare that someone is just naturally able to this tho and usually requires some sort of attunement to achieve. Speaking of which -
Attunements. It’s possible for some “normal” people to become emerald users with enough training and attunement to the energy of the emeralds. Inducing indolism tho - there’s theories of this being possible, tho experts argue whether or not cases of indoles having their powers awaken later in life was just something latent that they were already born with, or something genuinely induced. Shadow is actually proof that you can induce indolism during fetal development. Metal Sonic, meanwhile, is proof that you can induce it even in [sentient] robots (in my roleplay community Metal hasn’t actually discovered this yet - he was physically designed to mimic Sonic’s abilities using a turbine so he’s never had a reason to) but the ability to induce indolism is extremely rare and unpredictable. It’s not really something you can do intentionally
Indolism can be passed through generations and certain bloodlines can have affinities for certain types of powers. It’s also possible to pass on attunements, Knuckles’ lineage being a notworthy example.
Naturally occurring attunements are also possible. There’s an underwater civilization in my roleplay that runs more on a “magic” based system than a technological one and it’s because of the abundance of (in this instance, Sol Emerald energy) in the area causing natural attunement to occur. It’s actually considered a legit disability if someone isn’t or can’t be properly attuned.
It’s also possible for an Emerald User to learn the emerald abilities (but NOT indole powers) of others, as we see Sonic do with Shadow’s warp* in SA2. My roleplay community has been developing a “coven” (basically a Sega adaption of the Order of Ixis, btw we’d really like to have a Naugus and/or a Mammoth Mogul player!) of people calling themselves wizards who essentially “collect” emerald abilities (“spells”) and teach them among themselves
*“Chaos Control” is a technical catch-all term for emerald abilities in general, because you’re literally controlling “chaos”. Shadow has several emerald abilities and hasn’t bothered to give each one an individual name, hence the inconsistency of how his “Chaos Control” works

It’s a good thing no one in my RP community believes it exists then, because that would require someone knowing that it ever existed, and it never existed, therefore it can’t exist, for in order to exist someone would have had to have believed in its existence, but they can’t believe in something they do not know the existence of, so, therefore, fuck it!
So me and my Shadow partner have talked a lot about Shadow training Silver how to fight better, both with his telekinesis and in hand-to-hand. We got onto the idea that Shadow would probably also give him a weapon to learn how to use, and that got me to thinking, what sort of weapon would be appropriate to Silver? To be fair, he doesn’t really NEED a weapon, but what would suit him?
My immediate thought was that it had to be something throwable. A throwable distance weapon that he could easily retrieve with his powers and have whizzing around the room.
Shuriken was the first and most obvious choice. And while the idea of shuriken is really awesome and suitable for him, I kinda felt like giving him a set would be stepping on Espio’s toes? So I threw that out
Then of course came the jokes about him using fidget spinners which *SIIIGGGHHH* I can absolutely see the memeing little dork using *lol* But no, let’s be serious here!
Then while I was looking around at various weapons, I found it. Silver’s perfect weapons
Chakrams
They’re throwable bladed rings, and this style in particular has that handle in the center where he could easily use in close hand-to-hand combat if he wanted. They compliment his telekinesis perfectly and they just look like something that naturally compliments his overall design, what with the rings on his hands and all
So anyway, yeah. Eventually I’m going to give Silver a pair of these babies in my roleplay

With Silver and Shadow sharing a place it’s almost inevitable that Silver is going to put off his half of the chores and Shadow’s gonna end up having to yell at him for it. I can just see it going something like:

Like, okay, in my rp Eggmanland has been established as its own country. A very small island country but a country none-the-less. Eggman is, of course, the Emperor. But Metal? Metal has now officially been adopted as a member of the Robotnik family and is legally (at least, legally within the EE) considered Eggman’s son, is second-in-command to the Eggman Empire, and as of this moment is considered heir to said Empire
