@jammerlee
Since you know more than one language, and are learning Japanese (if I recall correctly), do you have any tips for learning vocabulary ? I'm currently learning latin and I struggle A LOT with it :/
Read a lot in the language and watch videos if possible. Words are easier to remember when you have actual memories attached to them rather than just looking at flashcards or lists with no context.
As someone who speaks a romance language and is learning others, lexical similarity is your friend.
(French and Italian have a huge lexical overlap that makes it easier to learn one if you know the other. The same goes for Spanish and Portuguese.)
Yeah and if you already speak a Romance language there’s obviously a lot of similarities with Latin. Do be aware of false friends though.
Learning through context when reading is a lot easier too when you already know a similar language.
I've been learning Spanish and the thing I've found really helpful is finding children's media. Like, baby/toddler level stuff for the very beginning to help build your beginner vocabulary for colors, animals, food, etc. Media like that is very good at teaching you to associate words with images and such.
Watch/read/etc them once a day. Once you're pretty comfortable being able to look at something and associate it with the target language word instead of thinking of the english word first and translating it, move to the next reading level (pre-school, first grade, whatever). Try to go for media where you understand most of the words but not all of them and don't even worry about the grammar or sentence structure or anything. You'll naturally pick that up as you go
Basically, think about how actual babies and children learn language and mimic that
If I fail, it will never be for lack of effort or intention.
If the world chooses to become my enemy, I will fight like I always have
finding a term that you’ve never heard before but it resonating with you so deeply is a really cool experience
and that is why research on queer identities, whether gender, sexuality, or romance, is so needed!

Well those are allllmost done
question. why do you have 7 featureless grey monoliths in your driveway
There's eight actually but the last one is still in the garage
question. why do you have eight featureless grey monoliths
They're actually a really dark purple
question. why do you have seven featureless really dark purple monoliths in your driveway and an eighth in the garage
Some of them do have features though. There's holes and hinges and stuff, so I can put secrets in em
question. why do you have 8 really dark purple occasionally featureful monoliths

You're not wrong
This post is less than six months old.
Sometimes posts just, have olde tumblr post energy. And ya gotta live wit dat.
@hellsite-hall-of-fame
30+ year old women are the backbone of this website
reblog if you're literally 30+
My favorite part of this stage of inflation is when the like small high end companies with better morals and like fair trade shit that’s generally of a higher quality are like “yeah why would we raise our prices we were already priced to turn a profit in the first place like we’re really only gonna raise prices if our suppliers charge more cause we’re not stupid enough to think we can get away with charging even more for this shit” so people start just getting nice stuff because the shitty cheap stuff is basically as expensive as the nice stuff now and then the shitty cheap companies are like “uuuuhhhhhhhh what could possibly be driving consumers away??? It must be that they like to feel fancy I guess. There could be no other reason why they don’t want our shitty slave labor product that’s bad for you” so they make like the most tacky ass “luxury” version of their shit that only the lamest motherfuckers buy because it sucks ass and is the same shit just more expensive so it’s only on the shelves for like 2 months and then 20 years later you see like “unopened box of fruit loops diamonds and gold limited edition RARE” on eBay for 5000 bucks and like the flamingo on the box is iced the fuck out and got a Rolex and shit
Working at a library for five years and being an author for a year more is such a wild time, because I always try to predict what new content will get the most pushback and have a script or redirect ready, but it's NEVER the things I expect.
Like, we'll do a whole training to prep our Drag Storytime safely that'll go fine, and then we have to get security involved because our outside art display included photographs of beards.
I'll help make a whole setup for non-denominational December Holiday Decorations, only to have to veto the January setup because someone on staff thought HELPFUL TRENDY CRASH DIETS FOR POST-HOLIDAY WEIGHT LOSS was a fun non-denominational setup to put in the teen section.
I'll add autobiographies with the most vile, pedophillic, unsettling narratives imaginable to the archive and brace for complaints, then see patrons walk right past it to pick up a kid's book with a puppy on it and ask if it's supposed to be porn.
I guess my point is: if you're posting on Tumblr and trying to brace yourself or predict how to word your content in a way so that no one can possibly get mad at you or misinterpret the intentions... take it easy on yourself? People are weird. I cannot emphasize enough that, even in a professional environment with years of practice and training and archiving, it is impossible to gauge what will get what responses.
Be kind to yourself! Post what brings you joy!
Library Leif, out!
yeah this checks out
As far as I’m concerned, the single most radical change from journal fandom is the idea that fandom is primarily a space for kids.
*shakes cane* in MY day, teen fans pretended to be adults while we walked uphill both ways!
#tumblr: i GUESS we’ll tolerate these gross old women LIKE OVER 25 UGH as long as they understand that fandom isn’t /for/ them
#lj: HOW DO YOU DO FELLOW ADULTS
#on LJ it was very clear that when you were underage#YOU were the one sneaking into the adult club#now everyone’s acting like the adults are invading prom night
Sonictober2025 Day 23! Theme: Metal. As much as Metal Sonic hates to admit it, it’s not so bad seeing Sonic as the imposter for once. But does cosplaying as someone already based off of you really count as a costume?

People who ‘love nature’ but violently hate their native coyotes, spiders, snakes, and scavengers are fake.
Here’s the thing about the post. You don’t have to love or even like every animal. You can dislike things! Humane, intelligent pest control is fine and necessary. This isn’t the issue and never has been.
It’s violent, blind hatred and hypocrisy that’s the problem. People who gush over foxes and owls and hawks but want coyotes and snakes dead in the next breath. People who will rescue prey from predators because predation is mean. People who find it appropriate to leave sadistic comments on pictures of spiders or snakes someone is appreciating or owns. People who insist on labeling species as ‘good’ or ‘evil’. This is the sort of behavior that bothers me.
People who only appreciate nature when it’s aesthetically pleasing to them and want to destroy the parts they find ugly and unpleasant don’t truly understand or love it. They love an ideal that isn’t actually representative of reality.
Okay I was going through the notes and I Really have to say. Some of you people don’t understand how ecosystems work. There is literally no such thing as a “useless” or “pointless” species. That is not how this even remotely works. Every species on this planet is the result of billions of years of evolution.
Just because you don’t know something’s role in the ecosystem does not mean it exists just to annoy or scare you. You are not the center of the universe. Evolution does not exist for your benefit or detriment. That’s not how this fucking works.
Just because you think flies are useless because you can’t be bothered to learn about them does not mean they shouldn’t exist. Just because you think wasps don’t do anything because you can’t be bothered to learn about them does not mean they don’t play an vital role in the ecosystem.
Flies are scavengers and pollinators. Wasps are predators and parasites and pollinators. There is no such thing as a “useless” or “pointless” species, it’s just that you’re ignorant. Your lack of knowledge is not the fault of the species you’ve decided to hate.
Learn about the species near you, research the ones you think are useless, and learn that your fucking perception of the world does not equal how the world actually works.
No gods damned species spent the entire history of life on this planet evolving just to annoy or scare you. There is no such thing as a pointless species, only ignorant people.
If you want something to hate look into the invasive species in your area
I don’t think it’s really productive to hate even invasive species. They’re not acting out of malicious intent, they’re just living their lives as best they know how. They don’t really have the ability to understand the harm they’re doing to their non-native environment, and even if they did, they’d still be stuck doing what they need to do to survive. They’re not there by their own choice any more than any other creature chooses when and where it’s born.
That’s not to say that they don’t pose a threat to the environment they’ve been introduced to and don’t need their populations controlled. I just don’t think hate or projections of morals need to be part of that. Incorporating how people feel about certain invasives is how you end up with some species being treated like exceptions or, on the flip side, getting aggressive control measures that harm other native species.
Something I think a lot of folks also don’t realize is that even native species can be invasive
Deer are an excellent example. Deer are a native species in the US, but when we removed wolves from the environment (because of that whole aforementioned blind hatred thing, I might add) the deer population exploded uncontrollably - yes, even with human hunters trying to keep the numbers culled - and has absolutely devastated the ecosystem as a result
Nothing is ever black and white. Ever. You can’t remove one species and not expect a devastating cascade - they’re ALL important
@jammerlee that is NOT how words work. Deer are not invasive in areas they are native to just because humans destroyed their environment.
No, native species are not fucking invasive. If a species is in its native habitat, it is invasive. If that species is moved to a habitat it is not native to, it is invasive.
Deer literally still in their native habitat that humans purposefully destroyed are not invasive. Please learn what words mean before you start using them.
Deer are not at fault for the problems humans purposefully caused. Deer in their native habitats are not invasive beause humans purposefully destroyed their natural habitats.
@rjalker
“An invasive species is an introduced organism that becomes overpopulated and negatively alters its new environment.[2] Although their spread can have beneficial aspects, invasive species adversely affect the invaded habitats and bioregions, causing ecological, environmental, and/or economic damage.[3] Sometimes the term is used for native species that become invasive within certain ecosystems due to human alterations of the environment. An example of a native invasive species is the purple sea urchin which has decimated natural kelp forests along the northern California coast due to the historic overhunting of its natural predator, the California sea otter.[4] In the 21st century, invasive species have become a serious economic, social, and environmental threat.”

u ever wonder if ur associated with a character forever to someone else. like. when ur scrolling ur dash and u see a url u don't recognize and after going to their blog ur like ohhh this is the Character person. yeah ok i remember now.
rb and tell prev which Character person they are to u
It’s no secret that there are many people in the world (and other worlds), each with their own preferences and identities. And if we could all learn to accept our differences and celebrate our similarities, the world would be a much better place!
(Also take these specific character labels with a grain of salt, please don’t kill us)

oh wow the itty bitty nicole popping out of the console with her own digital flag is such a great touch. As is the distinct personality each character shows in how they carry their flag combined with their distinctive expressions; the light note of Defiance in Sally's expression especially stands out, but Tekno's wide-eyed brightness and the more Restrained look for Starline are also excellent. The particular way the differing Pride Colors all run together as the characters march is also such a striking and affecting visual!
Happy Pride!
Every pride, you must reblog this. No exceptions
I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
