Absolutely nobody was surprised by Wei Ying’s crush on Lan Zhan, least of all Wei Ying. It took him a while to figure it out, maybe. But once he got it, it was easy to get; an understanding instead of a revelation. Like learning that the color of the sky is called ‘blue’.

P210 さすがにテオの軍だけあって兵の統制が取れ、鉄甲騎兵団を失ってもまったく動揺していなかった。 As one would expect of Teo’s army, the soldiers maintained their composure and did not waver even when faced with the loss of the armored cavalry units.

ビクトールら三隊が当たっても、テオの部隊は崩れない。 Even when hit by the three units led by Viktor and the others, Teo’s forces did not break.

崩れるどころか、逆に三隊を押し返しはじめた。 Instead of folding, they actually began to push back the Liberation Army’s units.

「戦いは、これからです…」目を閉じて、マッシュが言った。 “Now the real battle begins…” Mathiu murmured, closing his eyes.

ティルは、セイカてマッシュに会った時のことを思い出した。 Tir remembered when he had first met Mathiu in the village of Seika.

彼は悲しい目をして、こう言った。 His eyes filled with sorrow, he had said…

敵であろうと味方であろうと、自らの采配で人が命を落とす場面を見たくないーーと。 “I do not want to see any more people lose their lives under my command, whether they are enemies or allies.”

マッシュはぐっとテオの軍を睨むと、部下に旗を振らせて叫ぶのだった。 With an effort, Mathiu opened his eyes again and scowled at Teo’s army. He shouted his orders to his subordinates to raise the flag and transmit his commands.

「カイは右側面、バルカスは左側面ヘー・ローレライ、ルビィはそれぞれ援護を！！ 」 “Kai takes the left, Varkas the right! Lorelai and Ruby’s units act as backup to each!”

指示を受けた部隊が動く。 The units received the signal and began to move accordingly.

カイとバルカスの歩兵が走りだし、カイがアレンの部隊へ、バルカスがグレンシールの部隊の側面へと回り込む。 Kai and Varkas’ foot soldiers broke into a charge. Kai’s attacked Alen’s unit, while Varkas’ circled around to the side of Grenseal’s unit.

その背後にローレライ、ルビィがそれぞれついたと思った瞬間、黒煙の消え去らぬ空に無数の矢が舞った。 Behind them, Lorelai and Ruby’s units filled the smoky skies with a rain of arrows.

直後、荒れ狂う兵の波間に火柱が上がった。 Immediately following that, a pillar of flames erupted amid the raging waves of soldiers.

かと思うと上空に暗雲が垂れ込め、解放軍の兵めがけて雷が落ちかかった。 At the same instant, dark clouds gathered above them and unleashed a torrent of lightning down on the Liberation Army’s forces.

両翼のアレンとグレンシールが、魔法を使いはじめたのだ。 Both units flanking Alan and Grenseal had begun to use magic.

一時、解放軍の波が引く。 For the moment the wave of the Liberation Army’s forces begins to recede.

マッシュがそこで、ティルたちと共に戦況を見つめていたルックに言う。「では、ルック……」 Mathiu turned to Luc, who was watching the proceedings beside him with Tir and the others, and nodded.

ルックは解放軍に襲いかかる炎と雷を見つめて、ふふんと鼻で笑った。 Luc stared at the fire and lightning plaguing the Liberation Army and snorted.

「やっと僕の出番なんだね。もう帰っちゃおうかと思ったよ」 “My turn at last, hm? I was beginning to wonder if I should just go home.”

ルックが魔術師部隊と共に馬を走らせた。 Luc charged alongside the magic unit atop his horse.

そしてフリックら三隊の後につくと、ルックは魔術師たちが組んだ円陣の中央に立ち、右手を空に掲げた。 They placed themselves behind the three units led by Flik and the others. The magic users linked arms, forming a circle. Luc stood in the middle of the circle and raised his right hand to the heavens.

「我が身に宿る風の紋章よ……、その力を示せ！！」 “I’ll show you the power of the wind rune that dwells in my body!”

ルックの声が響きわたったかと思うと、凄まじいまでの旋風が戦場に吹き荒れた。 No sooner did Luc’s voice ring out then a terrible whirlwind formed and swept through the battlefield.

風に黒雲が散り、炎が吹き消される。 The wind scattered the dark clouds and extinguished the flames.

彼はあっという間に、風の魔法でアレンとグレンシールの魔法を封じてしまった。 Luc blocked the magic of Alen and Grenseal’s units in one fell swoop.

「全軍、前進せよ！！」マッシュの叫びに、再び解放軍が前に出る。 “All units, advance!” cried Mathiu, and once again the Liberation Army moved forward.

矢が乱舞し、彼方に帝国兵の悲鳴が響く。 Arrows danced through the air amid the screams of the Imperial soldiers.

やがてカイ、バルカスの部隊が、帝国軍を左右からじわじわと押していった。 Kai and Varkas’ units attacked from both sides and at last began to gain some dominion over the Imperial forces.

バレリアとレパンの部隊もそれぞれ前進しはじめた。 Valeria and Lepant’s units each began to move forward as well.

両側面からの攻撃と降り注ぐ矢に、帝国軍の両翼が潰れかかっているのだ。 The Imperial army’s flanks were collapsing under the incessant rain of arrows from both sides.

「父さん……」戦場から目を逸らして、ティルが呟いた。 “Father…” murmured Tir, averting his eyes from the battlefield.

父と戦う決意をしたはずなのに。 I thought I was prepared to fight against Father…

父、あるいは自分の敗北を、覚悟したはずなのにーー。 I thought I was ready to face his defeat or my own, but…

ティルが手綱を握りしめた時、フリック、ビクトール、ハンフリーの部隊が前に進みはじめた。 As Tir gripped his reins in his hands so tightly it hurt, Flik, Viktor and Humphrey’s units also began to move.

少しずつ、少しずつ、三隊はテオの部隊に向かって前進していた。Little by little, the three units approached Teo’s main force. 

「父さん……、父さああん！！！」 “Father...” cried Tir. “Father!!!”

ティルはもう、何も考えられなくなった。 He could no longer think. 

無意識のうちに手綱を握り、マッシュが止めるのも聞かず、混戦のただなかに飛び込んでいった。 Gripping his reins, heedless of Mathiu’s cries to stop, he leapt into the fray of battle. [ END OF CHAPTER 20 ]

This is a mistake.

It might be a different room, as Lady Vex’ahlia promised, but the scene is still the same. The long, laden table (although the food is being brought out in courses rather than arrayed before them in a banquet to demonstrate the sumptuous largess of the hosts). The six companions dressed up alongside her (although they are certainly a more eclectic group than before). The lord and lady of the castle side by side at the head of the table (although their expressions are tighter, tireder, human).

At the far end of the chamber the fire blazing in the massive hearth breathes light and warmth across the room, but she can’t stop shaking. Under the table she fists her hands in her skirts. But even with her eyes closed she can still see the candlelight sparkling on crystal glasses. She can still see the array of polished silverware lined up as straight as the row of castle guards standing at attention along the wall. She can still see the feast laid out before her, an obscenity of luxury in that time of privation, smell the savor of roasted meats and the buttery richness of bread so fine it’s like pastry and the burned-sugar sweetness of a brandy-soaked cake, taste the decadence of it like bile in the back of her throat.

  A jingling of bells and strum of lute strings. A trio of minstrels is regaling them with songs from faraway continents. An illusionist in a diamond-patterned cape is spinning pretty little cantrips, turning the flutter of a white silk handkerchief into a bell-shaped lily into the outstretched wings of a dove, taking flight up to the ceiling where it falls as a shower of rose petals.

But it’s just Mr. Pock O’Pea, shaking out his napkin to tie it around his neck. And that isn’t a bard tuning an exotic instrument, it’s just Fearne running her finger around the rim of her water glass. And over there, that’s just dear Trinket settling his old bones to warm by the fire, not the poor captive bear that was chosen to play him in an unknowing pantomime. Slowly she unclenches her hands from her skirt. It’s all right. Her friends are here around her. She can do this.

Going to have som fun base coating this Cadre Fireblade's cloak and black cloth pieces before I lay the final details on Commander Shadowsun so I'm sure I won't make any unnecessary mistakes on her! Gotta be warmed up for those tiny details (and a free hand on the cloth thingy).

But yea this will be the next up in line to get paint! Shouldn't take too long (he said foolishly and overconfidently)
