Sometimes you have to make due with the situations you find yourself in, you know?
Anyway I’m no longer mad about the confinement of this skin.
Instead, I’m going to start dabbling in what these mortal folk call ‘politics’, and become leader of their little stone fortress. We’ll see what fun comes of this.
I feel like the personification of wanderlust.
scared i’m going to die like this

My letter to management regarding the elevator situation
[It’s rough, I know. But I had to respond today, and I’m also trying to document the “late-breaking” exchange, because I have to wait until next week to talk to advisors & legal council] Hello, I'm writing this email because I told you, Nicole Wilson, that I would during our conversations of last night, Friday, September 9, 2016 at 5:57 and 6:15 PM. I am this morning still trying to figure out what to do--and what I can do-- both physically and legally in regard to this ongoing elevator issue. I have been unable to come and go autonomously from my apartment since Saturday, September 3rd (though neighbors tell me the elevator was "acting up," "acting weird" all day Friday the 2nd as well, I didn't experience it because I didn't use it that day). When Otis repairmen finally showed up on Tuesday the 6th, the problems with accessing other floors were fixed, but the 4th floor wasn't, and required a part for which we are apparently still waiting. It took me multiple calls and tries to even get you/anyone on the phone to get that information. I am the ONLY person on 4 who is in a power wheelchair, and therefore entirely unable to come and go by the stairs, and as such, I should have at the very least been called and notified as soon as you knew the elevator was malfunctioning, and offered options at that time. I should not have had to call multiple times, and multiple times each day since--only 2 times did I even reach anyone, and my calls were not returned during that week--just to get the barest information. It is unconscionable that it took an entire week and mention of my legal rights and legal action to get a response. I am aware that management cannot control the elevator function, but this situation violates not only HUD/HACSA's rules for access & safety, and the Americans with Disabilities Act itself, it is a violation of my human rights. I understand that I am now being offered an option to stay in a room at the Holiday Inn on Franklin Blvd. I am not accepting this offer at this point for several reasons. First, because I cannot physically do so. The offer was made after 5PM on a Friday, and even were I eligible to use Ridesource services to transport me to a hotel, Ridesource requires 24-48 hours advance scheduling for non-medical rides, and the scheduling must occur during business hours. I have no other way available to transport myself and all of the things I'd need (including medical and personal items, and my wheelchair charger equipment). A "cab" was suggested, but that's an impossibility as there aren't any non-medical-transport companies in Eugene that can transport a 250+ powerchair, even with prior notice. Second, I, myself was not given enough notice to be able to take advantage of this offer if I wanted to. Perhaps I'd have been able to if it had been extended at the beginning of the week, so that I would have had (weekday) time to prepare and find help to get there are get reasonably accommodated and acclimated, but a last ditch, Friday-after-5-before-a-big-game is not the time to easily find assistance. And, because of fact that I had received no indication that anyone was suddenly going to pay attention to the fact that I was still stuck without means of independent access/exit, I was undressed and out of my wheelchair for the day when the offer was made. Third, I am looking into and considering legal options that may be available to me. Again, I know this elevator breakdown is not the fault of management. However, my rights were and are being violated. I am/will be in contact with HUD, multiple disability rights organizations, including Disability Rights Oregon, and the CLDC going forward. I do this in order to know my rights, and to protect myself.
