Nausea churns violently in your stomach the moment you see him standing there.
It's like no time has passed at all. He looks exactly the same—devastatingly, cruelly the same. That snow-white hair catching the dim light, pale skin that always seemed to glow against the darkness, and those eyes. Those impossibly blue eyes that used to make you feel safe, now piercing through you like shards of ice.
"Y/n."
Your name falls from his lips like a prayer, soft and reverent, and it roots you to the spot. Your feet might as well be encased in concrete. The shock doesn't just overwhelm you—it consumes you entirely, flooding every nerve ending until you can't feel your fingertips, can't remember how to breathe properly.
Before you can process what's happening, Satoru closes the distance between you. His arms wrap around you with a desperate urgency, pulling you against his chest and holding you so tightly it's like he's trying to convince himself you're real. His familiar scent—clean linen and something distinctly him—invades your senses.
"Fuck, I've missed you so much," he breathes into your hair, his voice cracking at the edges.
Something inside you snaps.
You shove him away with more force than you knew you had left in you, your palms flat against his chest, and then you completely fall apart. The tears come in torrents, hot and relentless, streaming down your face and dripping off your chin. Your vision blurs at the edges, going hazy and unfocused as all the blood seems to rush from your head at once, leaving you dizzy and unsteady. Your heart—that traitorous, broken thing—turns to stone in your chest.
"You said you'd always be there." Your voice breaks, raw and jagged. "You promised you'd never hurt me."
"Y/n—"
"No." The word comes out sharp, cutting him off before he can continue. "Don't do that. I don't want to hear your apologies. Because if you were actually sorry, you would have never left me like this in the first place."
His jaw tightens, pain flickering across those perfect features. "Y/n, please try to understand me. I love you. I love you with my entire being, heart and soul. I had to leave. It was eating me alive, but I had to do it. I couldn't see you hurt because of me anymore. You deserved better than that."
The words hit you like a physical blow, and suddenly you're not sad anymore—you're furious.
"What I deserve?" You let out a bitter, hollow laugh that doesn't sound like you at all. "What about what I want? I wanted you here. No—I needed you here." Your voice rises, trembling with the weight of months of anguish. "You left me at the lowest point in my life, and for that, I will never forgive you. You're the one who has to live with that now."
The silence that follows is deafening. Satoru stands there, frozen, his blue eyes swimming with something that looks like devastation. But you can't bring yourself to care. Not yet. Not when you're still bleeding from wounds he caused.

Back when loving him didn't hurt.
You lay curled against him on the couch, your head rising and falling with each breath he took. The warmth of his chest seeped through his shirt, grounding you in this moment—this simple, perfect moment where nothing existed beyond the glow of the television and the weight of his arm draped across your shoulders. Both of you were supposed to be watching the series you'd started weeks ago, but neither of you were really paying attention anymore.
"Mmm, this popcorn is delicious. I think toffee might be my favorite flavor!" Satoru's voice rumbled through his chest as he grabbed an obscene handful from the bowl balanced on your lap, shoving it all into his mouth at once.
"You're disgusting, you know that right?" You rolled your eyes, but couldn't suppress the smile tugging at your lips. There was something endearing about how utterly comfortable he was around you—no pretense, no performance. Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer alive, the man everyone else feared and revered from a distance. But to you, he was just... Satoru. Messy and playful and entirely, beautifully human.
He caught your playful tone immediately, that knowing grin spreading across his face. "I know you love it. There's no need to play hard to get anymore." He punctuated his words with a gentle squeeze and pressed a kiss to the top of your head, his lips lingering there for a moment longer than necessary.
"Yeah, yeah," you murmured, tilting your face up to meet his gaze. "But who said I'm playing with you, Satoru?"
The air between you shifted, charged with something warmer, something that made your pulse quicken. You both smiled—that secret smile that belonged only to moments like these—and then you were leaning in, closing the distance between you. Your lips met his, soft at first, then deeper as you took the lead. He let you, always let you set the pace, and when your tongue slipped past his lips to tangle with his own, you felt him sigh into your mouth.
When you finally pulled back for air, you were both a little breathless.
"You know what? I take it back," you whispered against his lips. "You're definitely my favorite flavor."
"God, you are soppy," he teased, but his voice had gone rough around the edges.
"No." You held his gaze, letting him see everything you felt. "I'm just in love with you."
Something flickered in his eyes—those impossibly blue eyes that seemed to hold entire galaxies. The teasing melted away, replaced by something so tender it made your chest ache. He looked at you like you were the only thing in the world worth seeing, like you hung the moon and stars just for him.
"I love you too," he breathed, and then he was kissing you again, soft and slow, one hand cradling the back of your head while the other pressed against the small of your back, holding you close. You threaded your fingers through his hair, and without thinking, your hips rolled against his lap, seeking more of him, more of this feeling, more of anything that could make you forget—
The thought crashed through you like cold water.
You hadn't been having the best few months. That was putting it mildly. During a battle with an extremely powerful special grade cursed spirit, something inside you had... broken. Shattered, really. You'd lost your cursed technique—not temporarily, not something that would heal with time and rest, but completely. Gone. The force of the spirit's attack combined with your own emotional and physical exhaustion had severed something fundamental, something you'd thought was as permanent as your own heartbeat.
Since then, you'd lost more than just your technique. You'd lost your sense of self.
You'd gone from rivaling Gojo as one of the strongest sorcerers alive to being completely defenseless. Powerless. Now he had to protect you, had to worry about you, had to adjust his entire fighting style to account for your vulnerability. He tried his best to comfort you, to act like nothing had changed, to never make you feel like a burden. But you could see it in his eyes sometimes—that flicker of concern, that split-second calculation of where you were and whether you were safe.
You knew a light had died inside you that day. Every day since felt muted, like someone had turned down the saturation on your life. Colors seemed duller. Food tasted like ash. Even moments like this, wrapped in Satoru's arms, carried the weight of everything you'd lost.
You felt like a burden. Worse, you felt like a liability. Anyone who wanted to hurt Satoru—and there were plenty who did—now knew exactly how to do it. They knew how much he loved you. They knew you couldn't defend yourself anymore. You'd become his weakness, a target painted on his back in the shape of your body.
But you tried not to think about that now. Not here, not with his hands on you and his lips trailing down your jaw.
Satoru pulled back suddenly, his eyes searching your face with an intensity that made you want to look away.
"Hey," he said softly, his thumb brushing across your cheekbone. "Are you okay with this?"
The truth was, you hadn't been able to be intimate with him since the incident. Every time things started to heat up between you, that familiar spiral of thoughts would drag you under: You're weak. You're unattractive. You're broken. Why would he want you like this? How can you give yourself to him when there's barely anything left of you to give?
But when you looked up at his face—really looked at him—you saw the flush spreading across his pale cheeks, saw those beautiful eyes staring at you with so much love it felt like drowning and breathing at the same time. And for just a moment, the dark feelings receded like a tide pulling back from shore.
"I want to," you whispered, and meant it.
Something in his expression softened even further. He leaned in and pressed a gentle, purposeful kiss to the curve of your neck, his breath warm against your skin as he whispered in your ear:
"Me too, baby. Let me make you feel good again."

Marcus Pike with a fashion writer!Reader would definitely get up with you at 4:30 AM (if work allowed it)—because you’ve got Paris Fashion Week livestreams to watch and report on, and you go to art galleries with him for work all the time. He’ll make coffee, he’ll sit with you on the couch, he’ll grab you something to eat if you’re hungry, get you coffee refills so you don’t miss anything. And he doesn’t do it to win points with you, either. He does it ‘cause you support his passions and work, and he supports yours. Besides, he loves the details. The Bosch iconography sprinkled throughout Valentino’s Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection? Don’t get him started.
