Something I hate about shipcourse (and kinkcourse because let’s be honest the two overlap heavily) is this “With Us Or Against Us” mentality on both sides that allows for no nuance whatsoever. I also hate how people will be so quick to use terms like “Fascist” “Nazi” “Pedo” “Purist” or “Groomer” Not only does it water down serious terms, but it also creates this idea that anyone who isn’t on your side is automatically one of the most horrible people on earth.
Like sorry to break it to you but your average person is not going to be strictly pro or anti. People have very mixed opinions on this sort of things and pretending like there’s only two options (with the side that isn’t your side being “literally evil”) is exactly what discourages people from having civil and rational discussions. “No taboo topics should ever be romanized and if you disagree you’re a pedo” and “Everything in fiction is okay all the time in any situation and if you disagree you’re a fascist” are not the only options. “Anything sexual is automatically bad” and “Anything sexual is automatically good” ARE NOT. THE ONLY. OPTIONS. I am begging you guys to think for yourselves.
Also for the love of god stop using “kink critical” when you really mean “anti kink” This term is so damn misused I and many others can’t even label themselves properly without people reading it as a sex-negative dogwhistle. Critical means that you critique certain aspects of a community, anti means you are against it all together. Learn the difference for the love of god.
