She knows that look in his eyes, knows it all too well. She sees that very same glint in her own eyes when she looks in the mirror. Need- less to say, that has been happening less & less. It’s not just a darkness in their hearts, but in their very being, in every aspect of their day-to-day lives. What she doesn’t understand is why he’s avoiding her. Maybe the incident in the woods had reached his ears, but something about the way he looks away when he sees her, when their eyes meet, ( as if he’s in pain, yet relieved as well, ) there’s no revulsion or blame, no GUILT like what’s pumping through her veins since that day with Lydia. In a world where few things are sure; friendship, the idea that she had gone under & sacrificed herself, but she hadn’t been A L O N E was one of the few things she had been sure of. Except now she isn’t. So she’s waiting by his locker. & he’s so out of it, he doesn’t even see her. Perfect. Leaning against the locker next to his, she waits for him to put his books in before she speaks. ❝You’ve been avoiding me.❞ Simple. Concise.
❝Do you want to tell me why?❞ She provides the query because she knows him, knows how quickly he would jump to denials, & how convincing he can sound when he wants.
